1. I'm coming to visit y'all next week!
So I think that your normal Saturday meetup is being rescheduled for a week from Thursday (14th) when I'm free! :hi:

7. I would like to get something that reflects local flavor
Except I wouldn't like that nasty lutefisk or whatever that is ;)

....Although I would like to see Minneapolis, I'm not big on driving around cities and I hate parallel parking. So, thats pretty much my requirements....I'm open to suggestions...

9. Fortunately, it's almost impossible to find lutefisk on a restaurant menu
:-)

Hmm, local Minneapolis color...Pearson's? It doesn't have parallel parking... :-)

11. Pearson's is a good bet for local flavor
and the 50th & France area isn't all bad.

I was there once when a tornado passed right over it - it can be a surprisingly adventurous spot.

(Another parallel parking phobe - we are kindred souls on that one)

What hotel are you staying at? Maybe we could meet in their restaurant; it would be easier for you.

15. Hmm, not a baseball fan myself,
but going to the Dome on the light rail (such as it is) would give a view of ....some of the less attractive parts of town.

My standard circuit for visitors is around the lakes, across town on Minnehaha Parkway, and up the River Road to the U.

20. I thought I could take the afternoon off Thursday if we decided the game was a good idea
(I haven't made it to one yet this year). But I need to take Wednesday off for a funeral so I'll have to work on Thursday - but I'll still be able to make the meetup. That, and I have developed tendonitis in my foot and I'm not sure how well I'd be able to hobble up and down the stairs at the Dome if this hasn't cleared up

Oh well, TZ, if you're a baseball fan, you're used to Camden Yards - we'd just be embarassed to show you the Dome. But damn, we should get you downtown so you could have your picture taken with the Mary Richards statue at 7th Street & Nicollet Mall.

19. Here's my suggestion
Go to the 50th and France area along Minnehaha Parkway (for local scenery) and eat at Pearson's or the Edina Grill (for local color). (The 50th and France area has two large parking ramps.)

that I don't know if you're allowed in there unless accompanied by a person over the age of 75.

33. What time can people get off work?
That's the important factor.

All you 9-to-5 types: How soon could you get yourselves to 50th and France?

(I'd be able to walk if I didn't have a bum ankle these days.)

48. That sounds good
You can take the scenic route (take Highway 77/Cedar Avenue to Minnehaha Parkway and turn left. Follow Minnehaha Parkway until you come to a point where it splits. Take the right-hand fork (50th Street). The cross streets are alphabetical (Aldrich, Bryant, Colfax, Dupont...), and France Avenue is in the second "alphabet" (Abbot, Beard, Chowen, Drew, Ewing, France...).

50th and France is actually in the inner-ring suburb of Edina (Ee-dynah).

I do not recommend making a left turn onto France Avenue, especially not at 5:30, not unless you have a lot of time to sit and fume. Go to the next block and turn into the parking lot of the Lund's supermarket, which also has an entrance to the parking ramp that serves the whole block.

For the non-scenic route, take either I-494 or the Crosstown (Highway 62) west to France Avenue. Go north on France to 51st. Turn left (there's a left-turn arrow) and go around the parking ramp till you see the non-contract entrance. Unfortunately, I don't recommend the traffic on 494 and 62 at 5:30 PM either. More opportunities to sit and fume.

It's a dilemma.
