Update on the House Hearing from Feb. 9 --HF2604 (Hayden) Stay of mortgage foreclosure proceeding
Update on the House Hearing from Feb. 9 and an action to take (small action)

HF2604 (Hayden) Stay of mortgage foreclosure proceedings allowed under certain conditions, and tenants provided rights of foreclosed property.

Thanks to all who showed up for the Housing Policy and Finance and Public Health Finance Division. Here is more info on how it went.

First, the good news: The bill is still alive in the House. It was not voted down and it was not tabled.

Our bill's next House hearing will be in Rep. Joe Atkins's Commerce Committee (http://tinyurl.com/y9mgkj2). The date is still undetermined.

Second, the not-so-good-news: A Republican pulled a sneaky parliamentary move to have the bill forwarded to the Commerce Committee "without recommendation." The main excuse offered was that some members missed the Jan. 28 two-hour hearing that was devoted solely to this bill. While it is great that the bill is going forward, it would be stronger (and it would have passed) had there been a full “recommendation” vote. But we have a couple of tactics ready to deal with the situation - we’ll keep you posted.

IMPORTANT:
Don’t let the stinky maneuver at today’s hearing go without a fight back!
CALL as soon as you can!

(help make our State be home for other home owners)

Three Democrats voted with the Republicans on the "without recommendation" amendment. Give them a call and say, "I am outraged that you voted against your constituents in Housing Committee on Feb. 9. By voting to ‘NOT recommend’ the moratorium on foreclosures and evictions, you hurt those of us who are trying to survive the economic and housing crisis. In the future, we expect you to vote for your constituents instead of for the banks!"

It is especially important to call if you are one of their constituents, but everyone should give them a call. Here they are:

John Benson 651-296 9934 DFL Minnetonka

Will Morgan 651-296 4212 DFL Burnsville

Brita Sailer 651-296 4265 DFL Park Rapids
