Republican governor-elect of Wisconsin may stop regional rail projects for Minnesotans

Train supporters in Wisconsin aren't the only ones hoping Gov.-elect Scott Walker changes his mind to kill the proposed rail link between Madison and Milwaukee.

If Walker turns away $810 million in federal stimulus money to pay for rail service, it is unlikely Minnesota would see its largest metropolitan area connected to the proposed nine-state Midwest rail line anytime soon.

But The Capital Times reports that Minnesota is still planning a series of meetings in Wisconsin and Minnesota. State officials want to obtain information for an environmental impact study on the roughly a dozen proposed rail routes between the Twin Cities and Chicago via Milwaukee.

1. It looks like the train is dead

Gov-elect Walker sided with the Tea Party during the election over there and absolutely refuses to spend money on any trains. It is nothing but a 100% car mindset for him. Like those who fight tooth and nail in the suburbs here for any light rail transit, or other public transportation, even though ridership from the suburbs is always very good (e.g. SW Transit buses).
