Met some new leftists today
As some of you know, I post on both the Strib's and the NY Times' website under another screen name.

The Strib can be really vicious at times, given the number of regular posters who share the endearing traits of being both mean and dumb.

Anyway, one of the left-leaning regular posters started organizing gatherings last year, and this is the first time I have made it to one. I finally got to see what some of my allies looked like and who they were. The ages ranged from late 20s to early 70s.

Anyway, they are all determined not to cede the Strib's conversations to the righties, and they urge all people of good will to post regularly, especially in the evening hours when the new Letters section goes up. The idea is to set the agenda.

1. Of late I've avoided the Strb's comments sections
it's just too maddening.

But, if there's another gather, I would love to meet some of the other leftists that post there. Keep me in mind next time there's a gathering.

2. There's actually another gathering next week
organized by another person whom I haven't met in person yet, but I don't feel that I can invite someone else along yet, being a newbie and all that.

But hey, this morning, we have the righties on the defensive in the Letters section.

3. When you feel comfortable.
You know what my userid is out there (I think) so feel free to mention me to the group. Though, I post so infrequently, no one may recognize the name.

4. They are some of the most vicious on the web
Outright mean does not quite describe some of the vitriol outside a very narrow far right wing point of view, which many posters think it is the only way or else. Apparently most everything is bad unless you would get theoretical approval of Rush, Beck, etc...

5. "The endearing traits of being both mean and dumb..."
A disheartening peek into the cesspool that constitutes the right-wing mind. I can't stand to read the posts on the Strib's website; I get too depressed knowing I share the same metropolitan area with such ghouls. Brava to you for wading into those crocodile-infested swamps -- you're a better woman than I am.

6. I know, it is depressing
Some of them are really demented and sound like horrible human beings. One of them is going on about how Bradley Manning is a "traitor" for leaking pictures of U.S. troops shooting unarmed Iraqis who are helping the wounded. Like, it's OK to commit war crimes and "treason" to reveal them. :puke:

One of the people yesterday has met one of the nastiest posters in person and said that he's a slick, smarmy salesman type. Probably a sociopath.

7. Hey it's jus t' Minnesota Nice' on display ask just about anyone
who lives in the Philips, Jordan, or Willard-Homewood" to name a few neighborhoods in Minneapolis what that term means and they will tell you 'smile in your face and stab you in the back' really when I lived in those areas in the '80's and 90's for a long time I actually thought that is what it meant

8.  I'v been venturing in more lately
It is truly depressing how angry and uninformed they are. Some can't post a single comment without an insult. They absolutely reject anything that can disprove what they think. Sometimes I wonder if the nastier Strib posters are the same when they have an actual person in front of them. Can they look a fellow human being in the eye and be such jerks? (Not that I want to conduct that experiment.)
