Pawlenty tells a whopper and gets called out on it
And Pat Kessler nails him on it. He is running an ad in Iowa bragging how his strong leadership was able to resolve the shutdown in 2005. No mention in his ad that he resolved it by raising taxes on cigarettes.

What his ad states:

“Minnesota's government shut down,” said the ad, showing images of protests and tax hike newspaper headlines. “Why? Because Tim Pawlenty would not accept Democrats’ massive tax and spending demands. Result? Pawlenty won.”

Kessler puts the icing on the cake with Pawlenty's statement at a press conference after the shutdown was resolved:

“Given what the state’s been through, anybody who tries to spin this as a partisan victory should be ashamed of himself or herself,” a relieved governor said on the night the unprecedented shutdown ended.

“It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t efficient. But it was democracy with all of its warts and all of its demands.”

Are you ashamed Tim Pawlenty?

I knew his past words would come back to haunt him. It would be funny to run the clip with the bolded portion in Iowa but we better wait and use it if needed later. Does this mean that Pawlenty thinks Dayton is a strong leader for proposing the same thing?

1. Acutally, Timmy refused an increased tax on cigarettes but did agree to a
"health impact fee". :puke:

I can't believe he still thinks he can get by with this shit.

5. A true braindead Raygun follower
In recent months, moreover; the Reagan administration has been more receptive to loophole plugging, fees, and revenues than ever before. To quote from the Tax Watch column in the New York Times (October 13, 1987): "President Reagan has repeatedly warned Congress of his opposition to any new taxes, but some White House aides have been trying to figure out a way of endorsing a tax bill that could be called something else."

8. Perhaps you have the identified the key to help this get resolved
Let's begin registering our millionaires and assessing them a millionaire's fee. It's not a tax hike. It's dues to be officially among the privileged.

The GOP needs to save face which means they have to raise revenue but pretend it is not a tax.

2. The look on Boris and Natasha's face was priceless but I did not know this until today..
Dayton not only pushed back with the cigarette tax proposal, he scored a direct hit on Pawlenty and the add. Tonight they were trying to make a big deal out of the Governor's Mansion still having the chef and the housekeeper working and it turns out that Dayton is paying them on his own they are officially laid off the state payroll.

Love it.
