There are cracks w/i the Repub caucus. This is him being the adult and offering (yet again) to find a solution which will get the state running again before there is further damage (which the Repubs will not do).

Dayton has another 3.5 years left. The Repub legislators need to get re-elected again next year. *IF* the DFL does this right, they will take back both houses and Dayton will have two years to fix things. But the DFL needs to get mean and start now. The people (according to polls) already are on Dayton's side here.

They are trapped into it now. It looks like none of the Dems are going to vote for it leaving the Republicans to fend for themselves. If they try to pull out or add any more conditions, they will own the shutdown 100%. Dayton may be giving them enough rope to hang themselves. Once people see how much this plan will cost them at a local level, they might not be to happy with the Republicans now in charge. Dayton also wins for sacrificing a campaign promise to keep 15% of the state workforce on the job.

I think that includes the photo ID for voting and other ALEC wet dream items.

Otherwise this sucks.

Republicans wanted to cut 15% of the state work force and Dayton got them to drop that, he also got $500 million for new construction projects. Yes, the bill he is going to sign is a bad bill, but the sad reality is it was probably the best he could get. If he would have kept the shutdown going any longer it would have caused a lot of pain and it is not at all clear that Dayton could have got a better deal so I don't blame him for this I blame the Republicans entirely.

And at least Dayton comes out of this looking a whole lot better than the childish Repubs.

What more needs to be said. Where are all the friggen jobs trickle down economics has brought us??!! We should have been asking for 'water-falls economics'.

Once again, the pukes are borrowing money from education funding and Humphreys win over the cigarette companies. Borrow, Borrow, Borrow until nothing is left due to their unyeilding and unworkable dedication to a single principle.

I am more and more convinced I will never see retirement.

That being said, please avoid chain stores whenever possible, spend at locally owned businesses. We can raise ourselves up but it will involve community building. We have done it before, we can do it again. Keep the faith, brothers and sisters, this is going to take years to fix and a generation of sacrifice not seen since the 1930's.

I think he got the best deal he could - but he's also smart enough not to trust them. He insisted on seeing the bill before he called the special session. If they try to sneak in any of their social agenda and break the agreement he can veto the bill and everyone will know who didn't keep the bargain.
