Prepare the concession speech: Dayton hires Shrum, Devine & Donilon
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 08:02 PM by Dickie Flatt

Dayton's finance director, Dinah Dale, left the campaign last month, and his national fund-raising consultant, Shari Yost, left in October. Both changes were described as "mutual'' by all three involved.

Dayton, a Minnesota Democrat, has brought in Kim Kauffman, who was a top fund-raiser for last year's failed Senate campaign of North Carolina Democrat Erskine Bowles, to replace Yost.

It gets better! The same firm that helped Kerry lose the election and propelled Dayton to a sub-50 victory in 2000 is back:

Dayton also said he was hiring Shrum, Devine & Donilon as his media adviser, the same firm he used in 2000. Dayton is a longtime friend of Bob Shrum, who was a chief strategist to John Kerry's presidential campaign. But the firm said Wednesday that Shrum was leaving to become a senior fellow at New York University.

2. It doesn't matter
the GOP will be stealing at least 5 more seante seats to get to 60. Dayton is the one of the obvious targets.

3. Jeebers. If Dayton even wanted to hire Shrum, he must have his head
all the way up there. But then, I concluded he was hopeless when he dumped on Barbara Boxer. He deserves to lose. Let's get a good progressive to run against him in the 2006 primaries.

6. Must not have gotten the memo
that we need fresh tactics and fresh blood.

It's a shame the veterans left the campaign, but now would be a good time to implement new campaign strategies.

I wish there was as much emphasis on connecting with and inspiring people as there is on how much money can be raised for ads. It's repulsive the amount of money we have to give to counteract negative advertising. (Especially when you lose anyway.)

Anyone else tired of the same old corporate PR and money strategies?

I wish Dayton or another national candidate would strike out on a different strategy and help change the way campaigns are conducted.

7. Lose Dayton!
Unless you guys want to have Screech as a Senator, we better find someone to take this yahoo out in a primary. Good news is...with Shrum at the helms, it may not even be that difficult.

8. Dayton is a wonderful Senator for the most part...
He's just as liberal as Wellstone ever was and it's so nice to know that a Senator TRULY does care as Dayton does. What's your beef with him?

9. I like Dayton
He's not perfect, but even Wellstone disappointed me on some votes.

You don't want the DFL wasting it's time on a primary fight. The primary isn't until September and while we're busy fighting with each other and candidates are spending money on a primary, the Repukes will forge ahead with a campaign geared toward the general election. (Why do they rarely have the infighting we have?)

10. Man, with the choices Dayton has made of late...
you'd think he is planning on losing.
