He's back! Grams considers Senate run against Dayton
http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/5217531.html

Republican Rod Grams is pondering a political comeback with a possible challenge to Democratic Sen. Mark Dayton, who knocked him out of office in 2000.

Grams, 56, said he's going to take the next six weeks to two months to decide whether to enter the 2006 U.S. Senate race. He said he's already had a couple dozen people encourage him to take that step.

"I want to see if this pool of support is wide and if it's deep,'' he told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday evening.

Grams, who owns three radio stations in central Minnesota and has been working for a Washington consulting firm, said he wants to add a voice to several issues in Congress. Among them, he supports an overhaul of the Social Security program, along the lines of one President Bush has proposed.

4. Yeah. Or they'd be backwoods like we are here in VA with
Warner and Allen. And, the representative in my area is a repug too.

5. Grams has a fair amount of baggage, as I recall...
He'd been sued for ripping off business associates, there were sleazy real estate deals, etc. Then there was the great parenting skills that were in evidence when his son ran afoul of the law, repeatedly. I'm sure there are other things I'm missing.

Oh, yeah, he also was the anchor for a news show with ratings perenially in the gutter. This qualifies him to run for elected office?!

I welcome Grams running almost as much as I do Yucky (err...I mean, Yecke).

6. And, his crooked wife
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 07:10 AM by rodeodrive1
Also his wife is convicted felon, over the sleazy e-mails she sent to I believe Cirisi, in the 2000 campaign. She is also I hear, crazy and violent. He left his first wife for her. Nobody can work with him because of her. The Republicans don't want anything to do with him, neither does his family, and he cannot bring his wife out in public. She flips out on people. I think she hit or shoved one of Dayton's young aides in the last campaign.

9. Don't forget his son!
http://www.counterpunch.org/demonson.html

Senator Rod Grams, a perennial toast of such groups as the American Conservative Union and the Christian Coalition-which recently proclaimed him "a solid voice for pro-family issues"-September was one bad month. On the 24th Grams's 22-year-old son, Morgan, pitched himself out the third-story window of a Super 8 motel in Las Cruces, NM, in a vain effort to elude sheriff's deputies who'd tracked him there. Grams the Younger was taken into custody along with an 18-year-old friend and the 15-year-old runaway girl they had brought along with them on a four-day joyride that started in Minnesota; he was subsequently charged with three felony counts of theft for stealing a shotgun, a Chevy Blazer, and $2,500 worth of silver and antique coins.

7. my favorite moment in the Grams campaign against Dayton
was when Rod had his mom do a campaign ad. This woman has a worse accent than everyone in the movie "Fargo" combined.

8. ROTFLMAO!!!!
UUUFDa!!!! It's not the Mom who's a problem, it's his new nutcase wife. She almost had him thrown out of Washington BEFORE he ran for re-election.

13. I remember that ad, it inspired my Mom to want to do an ad for Dayton
As I recall Mama Grams ended her ad with the words "Mark Dayton - Uff da!"

As she was obviously trying to appeal to Scandinavians Mom decided she would do a Dayton ad appealing to Irish Catholics. She wasn't sure what she was going to say except that she would end her ad by saying "Rod Grams - Jesus, Mary and Josesph!" or maybe "Rod Grams - Holy Mother of God!", she couldn't quite make up her mind on that.

11. I hope he runs
He would be relatively easy to beat.
But I'm not sure he could secure IR nomination.

12. He won't win ANYTHING
He will not get the nom, even the GOP cannot stand him, and they won't let him get anywhere with that loony wife. He said LAST time that he was going to run against Wellstone, then he said he was going to run for his old Congressional seat, in the 6th. He didn't run for EITHER of them. I spoke to one of his old aides who told him, "you are THROUGH in Minnesota politics." He cannot go near the Senate, as that crazy wife, when she was his chief of staff, alienated... and THREATENED EVERYONE.
