Twin Ports residents could see higher natural-gas prices soon, and they can thank Kansas.

The Sunflower State is trying to collect property taxes from Duluth and Superior for letting gas en route to those cities sit awhile in an underground storage tank in Kansas.

Last year, to raise money, the Kansas Legislature voted to allow counties with the underground storage to charge property taxes. That decision affects more than 130 cities and companies. The lawmakers, however, exempted Kansas municipalities from the fee.
