Best Pizza in the Twin Cities
My choice is: Galactic Pizza in Uptown. (About a block north of Lake St. on Lyndale.)

http://www.galacticpizza.com

Yes, the drivers really do dress up in tights as superheroes and deliver the pizza in electric cars.

And the pizza is truly out of this world. Best I've ever had. If you have not had a chance to check this place out, DO IT. The folks who run it are obviously liberal, they cater to all types of eaters (meat, veggie, vegans), and they sell a great product.

I'll have to try that place!

The best pizza I have yet to have (in America) is Uptown Pizza. Amazing.

Thanks for the link!

Matt

2. Are these places thin crust or thick crust partisans?
After nine years on the East Coast (for language study and grad school), I'm partial to New York style thin crust pizza.

5. Galactic Pizza is hand-tossed.
I've never been asked for crust preference, so I assume that's all they do. It's very good, though. A bad crust can ruin a pizza.

3. Two for me: Leaning Tower of Pizza and Fast Freddy's
The Leaning Tower because it has been around since the 1950s, when pizza was considered 'foreign food', and also for sentimental reasons: my parents went there when they were dating, and my dad used to take me there as a kid quite often.

Also, Fast Freddy's (aka Bryn Mawr Pizza & Deli) in Bryn Mawr, Minneapolis does a great job with thin crust pizza. Better yet, they're only a few blocks away from me and deliver for free. :)

Also, the Savoy Inn in St. Paul has some great pies, too, and is a union shop and local DFL hangout, too.

11. It's a pretty busy place most of the time
However, it is only 1/2 a block away from where I work-- I can see it out my boss's window. That's an added bonus if we do it on a weeknight. :)

Would this place that you're talking about have room for such an august gathering as ours?

26. It depends
The last "official" gathering on December 28 drew about 12 people. An unofficial meeting a few weeks ago (after Mark Dayton announced that he was not going to run in 2006) drew six people on two days' notice.

The meeting at the Local in the fall drew perhaps 15-20.

It is so good! Great thin crust pizza. Excellent with a little extra pizza sauce and freshly grated parm.

They have some of the best pizza in town by far!

Their traditional crust is the best, it's chewy and tasty.

Check them out: http://www.davannis.com

15. Punch. There is nobody that comes anywhere close
Make sure you go to the one on Cleveland in St. Paul, S of St. Catherine's. It's the original and best. Absolutely god-like Neapolitan style pizza.

My wife and I have been in Woodbury twice in the last month or so and hit Broadway Pizza for White Pizza both times.

Hey, maybe Billy Idol can do advertising for them!

17. good dirty fun: Red's Savoy Inn
where sunlight is not allowed to penetrate, beer comes by the pitcher-full, and all pizzas are dipped in boiling oil before they're served. And if you play your cards right, someone just might drive a motorcycle through the front door.

I only go there once every few years. I think each visit takes a couple years off my life expectancy.

18. LOL! That sounds about right!
I literally work a stone's throw away from there (Lafayette Park complex), in an area where there's not much street parking. You can tell a lot about the Savoy's clientele by the vehicles parked nearby. The Savoy is the real deal-- there's NOTHING fake about that place! :)

about every two years when I have a devil-may-care attitude. There's nothing like it.

19. ahoy!
i took your advice and moseied my way over here.
and i have to agree with you wholeheartedly, galactic pizza is the best pizza in the twin cities.
it is so tasty, and it's great that they rely on alternative forms of energy for their vehicles and their store.
and most of their ingredients come from local farmers.
totally killer.
(and who can beat the superhero costume?)

sinful and their salads are huge. I usually go there with hubby and we wind up taking enough home for a second meal.

GREAT food, and a good location, too! Close enough to Nokomis, so you can go for a walk around the lake afterwards (IF you can waddle away from the table, that is) :)

32. I'm right around the corner from Fat Lorenzo's
And they used to make the best pizza in the city. Then the recipe changed, much more grease. I switched to Gianelli's (58th & 34th avenue), for delivery at least.

Fat's meatball sub is still awesome, and I agree with the Punch recommendations.

27. You must try Frankie's pizza (try the deep dish).
They have one in St. Louis Park and one in Minnetonka, I think. It is the only thing I miss about living is St. Louis Park.

29. Update: I stopped off at Galactic Pizza this afternoon
It was indeed very good (I had the sundried tomato pesto type), but it's not really East Coast pizza.

No matter--it's a pleasant space, the people were nice, and their hearts are in the right place.
