1. A Chinese acquaintance recommended Shuang Cheng
in Dinkytown.

I've eaten there only once, but so far, they're the only Chinese restaurant I've found here that gets hot and sour soup right.

Lots of Chinese customers, if that helps.

However, I have encountered a lot of lousy Chinese restaurants around here, the kind that offers mostly unidentified fried objects in duck sauce.

I go to several where the food is barely OK, but haven't found a really great Chinese restaurant. I will try Shuang Cheng.

8. I second LL's suggestion
They are as close to authentic as one can get here.

If you are into Thai, The Royal Orchid in Roseville is excellent (my husband is 1/2 Thai - we take my MIL there every time she is in town - she likes it and she was raised in Thailand)

7. they are truly delicious!
i recommend the shrimp spring rolls (the dipping sauce is amazing) and a bubble tea! :popcorn:

For a pearl few people know, try Ho Ting Restaurant near the corner Duckwood and Pilot Knob in Eagan.

13. Vietnamese: Mai Village
Western & University in St. Paul

Delicious, reasonably priced food in (brace yourself) a beautifully designed, comfortable restraunt. Seriously, they did this million-dollar renovation, had all this carved woodwork shipped in from Vietnam... it's just incredible.

14. Yes, good place and very pleasant
Another nearby Vietnamese place just west of there on U. Ave. is Trieu Chau, which is full of Vietnamese people and does an outstanding version of one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes, curried tofu with veggies.

15. August Moon (R.I.P.)
Sadly, it burned down about a year ago. It had some of the most interesting Asian-fusion cuisine this side of California. Plus, the staff was awesome, the owners were a class act, and they always remembered you.

The restaurant may be gone, but the web site lives on...
