1. The lead singer of Soul Asylum is Dave Pirner.
Currently doing solo stuff.

3. I think Dan was the lead guitarist. He did background vocals, too.

It's kind of funny. Apparently, the story is that they hired Pirner as a drummer. They discovered that he was a better guitarist and singer than a drummer, so they moved him to rhythm guitar and vocals and hired a different drummer.

Makes you wonder if they would have been successful otherwise!

Edit: typo

4. I remember seeing a band called soul asylum in the main room...
playing to about 15 people at 5 in the afternoon at 1st avenue. They were pretty loud and Pirner had on what I can only assume was the first low-riders ever. I dont know what crappy band I was going to see in the Entry, but I should have stayed to watch their show. Oh well...just an 80's memory...

5. They played the Entry every Sunday night for years, it seemed
...in the 1980s. Sunday was all-ages night at 1st Ave so us rambunctious teenagers had an excuse to go downtown from the 'burbs and hang out. This was loooooong before the Maul of American was around, and shopping malls were just as boring as anyplace else.

In fact, it became a running joke with most of my friends. If you couldn't find anything better to do on Sunday, you could always go down to the entry and catch Soul Asylum! :P

8. Dan Murphy slapped me on the ass once, at First Ave.
I was standing in his way. I was also six months pregnant!

Mr. Krupskaya went to grade school with Mr. Murphy, in Duluth.
