Police: Mississippi Neighbors Shoot At Each Other Over Defecating Dog
Source: AP

JACKSON, Miss. -- An argument between two armed neighbors over a dog and its feces escalated to a shootout in rural Mississippi, sending one neighbor to the hospital with injuries from shotgun pellets and the other neighbor to jail.

Terry Tenhet, 52, told The Associated Press he was struck Wednesday in both hands, the shoulder, chest and side by the spray of pellets from shotgun blasts fired by his neighbor, Jerry Blasingame, 60. The wounds are not life-threatening.

Washington County Sheriff's Assistant Chief Deputy Billy Barber said Tenhet was angry at Blasingame because he thought Blasingame's mixed-breed dog had defecated in his lawn.

Each man described his side of the argument and shootout to The Associated Press.

28. Top 1% own 38%. Next 4% own 21%. Next 35% own 36%. Next 20% own 5%. Bottom 40% own 0.2%.
I admire your eloquence: I concord with the concept that guns persuade the 1% not to blatantly rape our daugthers.

2. In our society, it's of utmost importance
that hotheads enjoy unfettered access to firearms at all times, just in case some trivial annoyance threatens to ruin their otherwise perfect day.

3. As I read this OP;
12 minutes after posting, I am shocked, shocked I say, that the gun bots have not posted any of their crap. Maybe some of them are one of the guys involved in this story. Ironic? Probably but anything that can be thought of is possible.

5. more in the overwhelming long list of evidence
that civilians should not be allowed to own firearms.

Unless you are a member of a well regulated militia, you have no right to own a weapon. It should not be possible to go down to the walmart and buy guns and and ammunition.

6. 'you have no right to own a weapon'
Putting aside the idiots from this story, I'm not sure which country you live in where those rights are restricted, but in America your statement is completely false.

8. I'm hardly a fan of guns, but unless you mean only handguns, that is crap
Edited on Sat Mar-26-11 08:42 AM by northernlights
I live in rural Maine. There are many, many impoverished people here who hunt to feed their families. I'm sure that is true in other parts of the country as well. So you would be consigning them literally to starvation.

There are also many, many farmers here and in other parts of the U.S. who depend on guns to defend their livestock from predators and to euthanize them should they become severely injured.

Note that I live in fear of my next door neighbor who tried to run over my 2 dogs in my own driveway after they dared set foot on her lawn (this was after I found their family's cows and bull in my back pasture and didn't make a big deal, and also had their chocolate lab visit my barn 3 times and attack me the first time...and I still didn't make a big deal. So I have a big stake in this game and live in fear that my one dog in particular will follow theirs home again and end up either shot or poisoned or killed in some other way by that armed nut.)

27. "Note that I live in fear of my next door neighbor who" nobody should live in fear.
Guns are like religion; you use them when you feel overwhelmed. By commutativity, you get peace, just knowing that you have recourse. If your neighbor would just see your gun, he would be much less menaceful (even in your mind). Believe me. Peace.

13. I don't mind people owning firearms
I just don't think idiots should own them... Not sure how to successfully regulate it though.

There are lots of things that most people can handle just fine, but that idiots tend to cause lots of messes with. For example, most of us can drive just fine, but we get some idiots who insist on drinking and driving or texting and driving or just being a general asshat while driving. We don't try to prevent everyone from owning a car. And yes, I think a car can be just as, if not more dangerous than a person with a gun. Imagine some angry person driving their car through a crowded mall.

22. I like the firearm/automobile analogy
Of course, where I live, all cars on the road must carry license plates that show the number under which they are registered with the state. All drivers must carry photo ID which is also proof that they have at least once in their lives passed a test of their driving skills, and have available for inspection the registration for their vehicle. All vehicles have to pass an annual safety inspection, and all drivers have to carry insurance so that, if there is an accident, the state (meaning the taxpayers) don't get stuck with all the ensuing costs.

Definitely, I think there is a lot to be said for this guns=cars analogy.

Just because of your post, I, whom doesn't own a firearm, am going to Walmart to purchase one. My dog likes to do his doodie in the neighborhood, and I think it is a good idea to be prepared for angry neighbors.

18. Private gun ownership is to Orthodox Liberals
As marijuana use is to Orthodox Conservatives – both bring out irrational faith based beliefs that either fail to place concerns in proper perspective and/or distort/misrepresent available data.
