Barbour Announces Run for Mississippi Governor
By Jeff Gannon
GOPUSA News
February 19, 2003

YAZOO CITY, MS (GOPUSA News) -- Former Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour announced that he would be running for governor of Mississippi. The 55 year-old Washington lawyer and lobbyist, who once served as a political advisor to President Ronald Reagan, has decided to return to Mississippi "because I know we can do better."

After one of several speeches around the state, Barbour pointed out, "This state has spent like a drunken sailor. Drunken sailors should be offended by the comparison."

Barbour said state government had fallen "from its strongest fiscal condition ever to the worst financial crisis in our state's history." Barbour said his campaign would focus on "prioritizing spending" and fighting "any and all tax increases." He declared that "to raise taxes while government is on a spending binge is only feeding the beast."

Barbour is the first Republican to announce his intention to run against the incumbent Democrat Ronnie Musgrove. If Barbour were to win, he would become only the second Republican elected governor of Mississippi since Reconstruction.

to the link in your post where the name JEFF GANNON is highlighted in yellow and then ... the intro to your post and your post made a "click" in my brain. ...
Now I am wondering is 2/19/03 prior to Gannon's entering the White House? Is Haley Barbour is conduit or safe passage into the white house? Is the Republican Party Gannon's conduit into the White House? CONNECTIONS! CONNECTIONS! CONNECTIONS! DARN, CONNECTIONS!

2. Babar is so tied with the BFEE and their evil minions . . .
I wouldn't be surprised if he and Jim-Jeff-Bulldog have met up in the past. I am trying to find out if GOPUSA announced his bid before the Clarion. I have just been doing a little surfing.

Do you know what is truly scary -- Gov Babar is #23 on possible nominations of 2008!

4. Actually, he is facing the dilemma that all other rethug govs are
facing - the weed's admin is gutting state funding and the states can provide services. The weed will take them all down when the property taxes hit that all time high and when no local services exist!

5. Please god
I hope Mike Moore enters the next Govenor race.

I can't stand Barber. I loathe him -- I actually think Lott is a swell guy compared to him.

IMHO I think Cochran or Lott resigns and opens the seat to Barber -- although Wicker may also run if it opens (although he may not).

6. Word is that John Grisham is considering running for gov.
Moore has his hands full, the feds have been after him for a while and he is trying to stay out of politics until the climate changes. He won't give up on his Tobacco Fund though, he won't let babar the elephant ruin what he accomplished.
