MS Voter Registration Day - Sat. July 2

A Call To Action
MS Voter Registration Day

Saturday, July 2nd, is Medgar Ever's 80th birthday. In 2004, Representative Erik Fleming authored a resolution, proclaiming July 2nd as Mississippi Voter Registration Day.

The MS Voter Empowerment Coalition is calling out to all political and social justice groups to join us as we hold a voter registration/empowerment rally at Medgar Evers Park in Jackson, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 2nd.

We're asking you to join us at the park, or to host your own registration drive or rally in your community on that day.

We will be using this day for several purposes: (1) to continue to raise awareness around political empowerment and accountability, year round, not just during elections; (2) to continue to bring awareness to important voting rights issues such as the permanent disenfranchisement of persons with certain felony convictions in the state; (3)to honor the memories of Medgar Evers, Goodman, Schwerner, Chaney, Fannie Lou Hamer and others who sacraficed their lives for freedom in this state.

Please join us on July 2nd, MS Voter Registration Day. Please let us know if you plan to participate so that we can announce all of the groups who will join us in solidarity on that day!!

Yours In Peace and Struggle,
