all this wailing and gnashing of teeth about Covington.
My first thought is "good riddance". My 2nd thought is "who cares"? I sorta feel like what Bender said in the Breakfast Club, like the schools are gonna shut down without some overpaid guy with an MBA to pretend to run things. "Kingie isn't here".

I wouldn't be surprised though if he walks away with a $500,000 severance package or some such.

But I don't know why it's so hard to get somebody to keep a $250,000 a year job. http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/24/3097178/covington-steps-down.html

1. It'd be nice if we could get some continuity at some point
I was hopeful when he was hired, but I'm a little less than impressed with his actions in the last couple of years, and capping it off by suddenly quitting to pursue another job makes me seriously question the guy's commitment to our children.

So while I agree with the "good riddance", "who cares" is off base. At some point we need to find a decent superintendent and have that person stick around for a while. The revolving door approach that's been taking clearly isn't working. While having an empty-suit MBA douchebag running things doesn't add any value, the fact is that the KCMOSD services over 17,000 children. For an organization with that big a scope it's really difficult if there isn't a capable person steering the ship.

2. "a capable person"
My question is what capabilities are needed. They pay these hot shot POS's like they are some kind of supermen. Well I guess Michigan thinks he is capable too. I just don't buy that the overpaid a$$hats at the top are as important as they think they are.

I was also thinking that he had assistants and others in the office who can pretty much carry on without him, but now I hear that he brought in much of his own team, so a whole bunch of people may go with him. That certainly makes it tougher.

Maybe I am wrong, because some coaches seem to produce more championships than others, and a star quarterback can make a huge difference.

But is's pretty clear from this example that you can get a "capable" person for $250,000 but you don't necessarily get somebody who gives a crap about those 17,000 kids. Michigan may learn the same lesson.

4. Reading a Book called why Boys Fail
I subscribe to Safari Online and am reading this book by Richard WhitMere. What strikes me is he has interviewed important people in the Eschalons of Education and there is a gap between Boys not being able to keep up with the ciricuulum. What bothers me about his style of writing is this reductionism and that is creating of a lot of the shaping problems. I have to clevery wrestle where to attach parts that accomplish my objectives. In my opinion the biggest cause of this is the reductionalistic Christian Pastors Priests and Bishops
