I used to believe it too

then one day I woke up and realized that I had been had by the "pastor" in my UPC church (anyone know about them?) when he lied about me and tried to pin other lies on ME!

There was no rapture talk. The hot topic was predestination. I still don't understand that concept. What is UPC?

but morphed somehow - UPC is the United Pentecostal Church, the largest of the Jesus-Name pentecostal churches. They believe in a literal translation of the bible, that in order to be "saved" you must repent, be baptized in Jesus Name (as was those in Acts) and speak in tongues (Acts Chapter 2). Additionally they believe that only those following this formula will be "saved." They also believe in what they call "holiness standards." No television, no pants on women, women cannot cut their hair, no mixing of the sexes in such things as swimming (suits are taboo!), some churches are more strict than others. Of course they're BIG in Texas - but so many of them are hypocrites (what a surprise.) They talk big about holiness, then go home to their closted tvs, thier swimming pools in the back yards, etc. At most churches, the tithes (you are required to pay %10 of your GROSS income) go directly to the pastor with no oversite.

I could go on but I have to go for a while....
