Man who shackled 15-yr old daughter to bed to stop her from overeating gets 15 years
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 11:04 PM by Bluebear
The man who admitted to chaining his 15-year-old daughter to a bed to keep her from overeating was sentenced today to spend 15 years in prison. He'll be eligible for parole in five years.

District Judge Valorie Vega sentenced Robert Blue, 53, to prison after he pleaded guilty in February to felony child abuse and neglect charges.

Blue told the judge that he's a changed man and asked for probation. He said he is suffering from severe health problems, including high blood pressure and diabetes, that contributed to his abusing his children. He also said he was greatly sorry for abusing the children...

Vega took a hard-line position with Blue and sentenced him to 15 years behind bars. He’ll be eligible for parole in five years. “This was a very dysfunctional situation,” Vega said. Blue asked the judge for probation. The Nevada Division of Parole and Probation also recommended Blue be granted probation. Prosecutors asked the judge to sentence him to four to 10 years in prison...

Chief Deputy District Attorney Lisa Luzaich told Vega that Blue had chained his daughter to the bed because he caught her sneaking vegetables to eat. “He caught her eating peas and corn. Not Twinkies. Not Ho Hos. Peas and corn,” Luzaich said. “A 300-pound person should not be chaining a child to a bed because of eating habits.”

Blue told police that his eldest daughter fought competitively in martial arts and was beginning to compete in weight power lifting. Blue wanted her to weigh between 140 and 145 pounds to compete, according to a Las Vegas police report. At the time he chained her, she weighed about 165 pounds.

A few years in a child's life can affect the child forever.

Even a few days, or a few SECONDS depending on the abuse.

"Only" a few years.

Grrrr.

8. Well, not just that
but it also shows a really poor understanding of how a powerlifter or bodybuilder competes. You have up to several months of "out of competition" shape where you pack on all kinds of weight in an effort to overindulge the body to pack on muscle and build strength. Then you "diet down" to your competition weight.

He tortured her not only out of cruelty, but also out of stupidity.

I hope jail is unkind to him.

6. If I could get my kid to eat corn & peas....
I'd chain her to the fridge.

Are you KIDDING ME!?! Who the hell are these people? Stories like this make me think that you should have to get a licence to breed.... it's not right that some kids get normal parents and some kids get put through the crapper, and there is no rhyme or reason as to who gets what.

11. "including high blood pressure and diabetes, that contributed to his abusing his children."
Yes, that's the ticket. Nothing causes abuse more than high blood pressure and diabeetus. :eyes:

The guy may have some genuine mental health issues, but it's safe to say the excuse presented is lame to the extreme.
