Second Titus/Gibbons debate, October 9
Dina needs a big performance starting tomorrow night at Bally's, 7 PM Pacific time. I hope to attend the debate if my schedule allows it. No doubt she'll attempt a clever opener, to contrast the gaffe of thanking UNLV students for hosting the first debate in Reno.

Still enough time but Titus is definitely is behind in this race, probably 6-8 points. Her commericals have been disappointing and a few days ago she parted ways with the company that was running her advertising. Gibbons is a clod but you can tell the Republicans really have their act together in terms of targeted ads. All weekend I've been seeing Gibbons and Jon Porter spots during televised sporting events, and that's been true for a month.

1. Bally's? It hasn't been called that in over 10 years...
...unless I'm missing something. :P

2. Not the same place
I'm talking about Bally's in Las Vegas, on the Strip across from the Barbary Coast and connected to sister property Paris. It is called Bally's and has been for more than two decades. It is the same property that was called MGM Grand in 1980 at the time of the deadly major fire. There is now a different casino called MGM Grand about a mile south on the Strip.

The September 25 debate was in Reno and that's where Titus made the gaffe, calling UNR students UNLV students. Tonight's debate is at Bally's in Las Vegas. There will be two subsequent debates.

I heard today that both candidates have been given the questions ahead of time, which would be obscene, but maybe that's why a fumbler like Gibbons agreed to four debates.

3. Caught the last 1/2 hour
of the debate and I thought Dina did GREAT! Gibbons came across as the talking point GOP parrot that he is. At the end the crowd was chanting DINA DINA DINA!!!

The debate was live streamed and you can watch it at the link below.

4. They chanted for Dina at the beginning also
Most lopsided audience I've ever seen at a televised debate. The roars for Dina were incredible when she was announced. Also a standing ovation. The moderator felt compelled to caution the audience not to react during the debate.

Bizarre incident at the beginning. A third party candidate showed up at the main podium in a red, white and blue outfit and demanded to be included in the debate. He said both Titus and Gibbons told him at one point or another that he should be included. The moderator was powerless to get the guy off the stage so they had to have someone come onstage and grab the guy and try to yank him. He resisted initially but then went off stage before they had to summon more people to drag him.

Dina dominated the debate but that's to be expected. As jen4clark said, Gibbons is an empty talking point goof who has to refer to his notes constantly and awkwardly, and rarely says anything that isn't a total generality. Tonight his theme was California is terrible and we don't want to be like California, in highways or taxes or anything else. Maybe he doesn't realize California has a Republican governor and I was astonished Dina never pointed that out.

Dina has a new slogan, "He may have forgot, but Nevada remembers." She used that repeatedly tonight, particularly at the end of her rebuttal segments. I'm not sure how effective it will be and Gibbons ignored it other than once, but at least it threatens to put Gibbons on the defensive, which is the opposite of where this race has been since the primary.

Ridiculous that the Democratic party hasn't sufficiently funded this race through the governors committee. Our nominee is clearly superior but the airways belong to Gibbons and that has shaped the race for weeks.
