Sales Taxes
State Sales Tax: 6.5% to 7.5%, depending on county (food and prescription drugs exempt); counties can assess option taxes which would raise the combined tax to 7.25%.
Gasoline Tax: 24 cents/gallon; county taxes may add another 5-10 cents.
Diesel Fuel Tax: 27 cents/gallon; county taxes may add another 5-10 cents.
Gasohol Tax: 24 cents/gallon; county taxes may add another 5-10 cents.

Personal Income Taxes
No state income tax
Retirement Income: Not taxed

Property Taxes
Property taxes are applied to property of every kind and nature, including real and personal property. The assessed valuation for tax purposes is based on 35% of the fair market value of the property and is revalued every five years. The Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Act is administered by the Nevada Division of Aging Services. Homeowners 62 and older who earn $24,016 or less are eligible for a rebate of up to $500 or up to 90% of taxes paid. The program is also available to older taxpayers who, through rent payments, pay a disproportionate amount of their income on property taxes. Call 775-687-4892 for details.

Inheritance and Estate Taxes
There is no inheritance tax and a limited estate tax related to federal estate tax collection.

If you're concerned with the political makeup, in the 2000 presidential election, LV/Clark County was predominantly Gore, the rural and northern NV were Bush country.

Southern NV tends to be more "progressive" (relatively speaking) than the rural and northern part of the state; not just politically, socially as well.

But I've heard lots of folks from other parts of the country freaking about the rates.

Most people think it's worth the trade-off. It's actually a very low price to register, but there are about ten other charges tacked on, all realted to blue book value. My '74 Toyota Corolla was $28 to register, my '93 Toyota Camry is about $140 IIRC.

Lots better than Hawaii - where it was based on weight.

Taxed the older cares more.

Housing is very high priced in Las Vegas...wouldn't go there if you.

Northern Nevada is lovely and prices are lower outside of Reno...and Northeastern Nevada is a steal if you like cold in winter....with zero crime rate.

I think it's ridiculuously affordable.

Prices are rising lately, but nowhere near Hawaii or California or New York - unless you are from a berg no one wants to be in.

It's the fastest growing city, where people WANT to be here - compared to other areas, it's at the bottom of the price scale.

North Las Vegas and Central Las Vegas most affordable - and have the oldest developments. I live in a non-association neighborhood, non-gated.

The South West area is still mostly country - but that is rapidly changing due to the new beltway.

The monorail just opened last month and a new light rail line will be in place going across the vally from Henderson to the Strip in a few years.

Lots of different neighborhoods and prices - we're starting to build high-rise condos near the strip now and downtown is getting some interesting lofts, etc.

There are pockets of racist/bigoted neighboorhoods - mine in Henderson near the Black Moutain Rec Center is very friendly - I was introduced to all my neighboors front, back, next to me and across the street when I first moved in.

Just need to rent 1st for awhile and plan to "get lost" in a new adventure trip every weekend to discover the valley for yourself - I took my dog and we had a great time on our adventures.

Just remember - over 7,000 move in every month and over 5,000 stay - and the numbers are increasing.

And, today, they just announced that the DEMOCRATIC PARTY holds a 800 or so advantage in numbers as of today! - was 1,200 the other way round.

Now if I had the time and inclination to re-roof my place before too long....
