O'er the land of the free.....

A teacher screams at his students to stand up and shut up while the National Anthem is played. He is caught on video tape abusively berating them and pulling a chair out from under a boy who refuses to stand. They taped him because he acts this way all the time. Because they got proof of his behavior, the boy who taped it is suspended for 10 days and nothing is done about the abusive teacher. Yes, it's a U.S. school.
The irony is that you can here "O'er the land of the free..." being sung in the background.

Hey freeps, look, one of your own is on the teevee!

I loved reading the NY Times when there was a child sex abuse case with one of their teachers, male-on-male, completely parallel to the priest/kid sex abuse scandals.

The union got involved. Grievances, complaints, hearings ... the story was dead, buried in procedure.

I could tell a great tail about a professor in my grad program that loved to make students cry in class, and once heaved furniture across the room at a student. Admissions were suspended, largely because of her, and the best they could do was strongly suggest anger management courses (anger wasn't her problem, psychosis ...).

Some people shouldn't be allowed to teach. When they screw up, and there's evidence, their tail should be bouncing on the pavement outside the the front doors.
