Christie Whitman for President? Surely you jest.
by Andrew Poag

In their April 11th issue, U.S. News and World Report updated their list of prospective 2008 Presidential contenders. One of the newest additions was "ousted Environmental Protection Agency chief Christie Whitman". Apparently U.S. News and World Report is unfamiliar with the Parsons and EZ-Pass scandals that New Jersey faced under the Whitman Administration. These blunders cost New Jersey taxpayers nearly $1 billion.

Here's a quick review of Parsons and EZ-Pass also known as Ms. Whitman's Legacy.

1. Secretary Whitman is not the worst possible choice for president --
-- but far from the best.

Those calling for Republican females for that job might throw their support behind Olympia Snowe long before you get to Secretary Whitman.

But the Democrats' policies would be far better for the country.

3. Fair enough. I'm not hogwild about either Snowe or Collins --
-- but would prefer either of them to Whitman.

As Republicans go, I'd admit that Snowe and Collins are more presentable than Santorum and Cornyn, for example, but sheesh -- can we just replace the whole lot with Democrats!?
