Judge rules NJ congressman does exist
Challenger to Rep. Scott Garrett plans to appeal

BY MICHAEL DAIGLE
DAILY RECORD

Michael J. Cino, the lone Republican primary challenger to Rep. Scott Garrett, R-Wantage, said today he will appeal an administrative law judge's denial of his claim that Garrett is not who he says he is, and should be removed from the June ballots.

Cino had claimed that "Scott Garrett" does not exist and is not registered to vote at the Wantage address on Garrett's nominating petition.

Garrett, a three-term congressman, carries a New Jersey driver's license in the name of Ernest S. Garrett, and as a 24th District Assemblyman before he ran for Congress in 2002, was known as E. Scott Garrett.

Administrative Law Judge Thomas Clancy ruled Thursday that Garrett and his attorney Bill Baroni of the state Republican committee presented sufficient evidence to establish Garrett's identity, to show that he is a registered voter and has been "using the name Scott Garrett for practically his entire life."

<snip>

Cino's mother's signature was challenged in 2004 because she is a registered Democrat.

2. Is that a rhetorical question?
Or was it something you expected me to answer?

3. It was rhetorical.
I can't believe the lawsuit though. It is so stupid.

4. Gotcha
He has threatened to sue anybody who repeats the story that he threatened Corzine in 2000 with telling the media he (Corzine) once made an Italian-American joke.

He has threatened to sue Blue Jersey, and anyone who posts the claim on Blue Jersey, and he's also threatened to sue Wally Edge from PoliticsNJ.

The guy's a first class nutjob, and I wish he wasn't, so he wouldn't do Garrett's job for him. Garrett probably won't spend a dime against this guy (well, actually, Garrett did go to court, so there were legal fees, but he might get them back with a countersuit, but I don't know about these things, maybe not)

5. Was it James Earl Ray
who was repeatedly asked about Martin Luther King and denied any knowledge of him at all? Then, on further questioning, said something to the effect of: "Oh, Martin Luther King JUNIOR? You didn't say that the first time."

6. I don't think the goal is to invalidate Scott Garrett's candidacy.
I think it's pure marketing. The name Scott Garrett has a more appealing ring to it rather than Ernest Garrett or Ernest Scott Garrett. The petitioner wants the electorate to know Garrett's legal name in order to garner votes. He should stick to the myriad of issues that are relevant to this year's election, including taking back the House.

8. OK. I think I remember Cino. He's not too attractive as a potential
Congress critter if my memory serves.

Going back to my original contention: Correcting the name is not his strongest argument or use of campaign funds IMO.
