3 killed execution style behind school

NEWARK, N.J. - Three friends were forced to kneel against a wall behind an elementary school and were shot to death at close range, and a fourth was found about 30 feet away with gunshot and knife wounds to her head, police said.

All were from Newark and planned to attend Delaware State University this fall.

Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow said authorities didn't have any suspects or a motive in the killings late Saturday. None of the victims had any criminal record, she said.

"They were good kids," Dow said.

The four had been listening to music in a parking lot behind Mount Vernon School when they were gradually joined by a group of men, authorities said.

3. Two steps forward, one back
Corey Booker (new mayor) is working hard to clean up the crime rate but this is something out of the ordinary.

If you read the backgrounds of these kids, they had jobs, were admitted to colleges for this fall....in short, anyone of them could have been one of my students.

I'm sure they will catch them, though. It probably will turn out to be gang related.

It's sad--just very, very sad. My heart goes out to the families.

4. "the four exchanged text messages saying they should leave"
Exchanged text messages while they were all there together?

Fucking Darwinism at its top form.

I mean, this is a horrible deal but they were fucking idiots.

Exchanging text messages while your life is on the line?

Maybe I missed something, but hesitation will get you killed just about every time.

12. If I was holding a gun on someone who was texting.
They would quickly be in a world of trouble.

Say you're going to rob someone (not that you would) and they were texting.

You going to let them finish?

18. Uh, yeah, lets make another example:

If i'm being held at gunpoint, how exactly is getting up and leaving any better than using my phone to text somebody? What a load of shit; getting out of such a situation is not exactly easy, and insulting these kids for not knowing what to do is out of line. Texting eachother was probably a lot less noticeable than any other action they could've taken, or at least it appeared that way to the kids, so why judge? Its tragic, you don't need to claim darwinism.

14. The correct phrase is "Tom has been held at gunpoint before".
You?

These kids had to know better.

You do not piss off the guy with the gun (or even make him nervous).

Methinks we have a lot of soft people around here.

No one but a fool would try to make outside contact in a situation such as that.

There is a time to run and they blew it and that got them killed.

16. Yes, and the time to run is immediately.
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 06:01 PM by superconnected
They should have ran as soon as they saw the gun and the guy was using it to force them to do what he wanted. Hoping for mercy from the one with the gun is ridiculous. If he wasn't going to shoot them, he would't shoot them if they ran. If he was, they'd have been shot anyway. It was only by running they'd have the best chance. Even the idea of letting someone with a gun tie you up is very flawed.

Poor kids they didn't know enough to try to run.

21. Running has saved my ass before.
Punks with pistols are rarely good at hitting a moving target.

The trick is to take off before they expect it.

20. What got them killed is the dirtbag with the gun.
I don't know why you're so quick to blame the VICTIMS.

13. What I think is fucking idiotic...
...is passing judgment on kids who just got their heads blown off in a senseless and brutal crime.

But hey... continue to blame the victim. It flies real well around here.

22. My brother once made a similar observation about the Port Arthur Masacre...
...here in Australia.

"FFS the bloke had to reload three times!"

His victims simply huddled where they were whilst Bryant walked amongst them and shot them one by one. And not one person there made a single move to stop him whilst he discharged over thirty rounds, from a rifle. A Thirty odd inch long, easily grabbed rifle, which three times was empty.

We do not know the full circumstances of what happened here, but the simple fact that they exchanged Text's suggests they knew (or at least feared) what was coming and had some time to contemplate that fate. Of the four, three appeared to have simply given up. Died inside if you will before the first shot was fired. The fourth struggled and survived. That the fourth was also cut suggests that knives may have been held to the victims whilst the shots were fired.

That much seems evident or likely from the known facts.

Your choice of phraseology leaves a good deal to be desired, and certainly does not endear you to people. Here's a simple suggestion, think twice and then again before attacking the person. You will do a whole lot better attacking their behaviour. Go for the person and empathy has you attacking the very person you're trying to convince. Go for the action/behaviour and 20-20 hindsight has empathy nodding it's little head, "Yeah that's pretty stupid considering..."

19. A few reasons seem to flow from the information provided
None of the victims were students at the school - They were all college-bound.

School was not in session. It's summer, and the shooting occurred on a Saturday night.

"Authorities believe the shootings were a random robbery..."

17. Sad to say, NJ cities really are hell-holes
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 06:00 PM by brentspeak
There's probably nowhere safer in the USA than NJ's suburbs; while Newark, Camden, Paterson, and 75% of Trenton and Jersey City would give New Orleans and Gary, Indiana a run for their money. :(
