sign bearers
An Office Depot in my neighborhood is being shut down and they are having a clearance sale. One way they have been advertising the sale is by having people hold up signs by the side of the road. Judging by appearances, a lot of the sign holders look like immigrants and/or poor folk. I've seen the same kind of advertising employed by local furniture companies touting going-out-of-business sales. Of course, the furniture companies don't actually go out of business, but that's another story.

Anyone know the reason for this kind of advertising (manned signs)? I'm thinking it may have to do with advertising in a public right-of-way but that's just a guess.

2. former advertising person
It's sign laws. They can get away with this and they can get away with signs on trucks that are strategically parked.

I always feel bad when I see someone doing that job, too. On one hand, it's better than no job but on the other hand, standing in the cold, doing such a boring job seems awful to me.

3. Yea, I struggle with it
it seems like a way of taking advantage of the underprivileged but, again we all need work. But I supposed you could say the same about low wages and horrible working conditions anywhere. It just is not right. I think I will stop and give them coffee if I see them this weekend.
