Chris Christie’s Popularity Plummets as Buyer’s Remorse hits NJ

NJ Governor and Professional Youtube Screamer Chris Christie may be celebrating his pension overhaul victory with a box of Twinkies, but he might want to chew carefully as a Bloomberg poll released yesterday revealed that support for the gargantuan governor is in decline.

Fifty-one percent of respondents said they will definitely or probably vote for another candidate in the next gubernatorial election. Thirty-nine percent said they will definitely or probably vote for Christie.

Even worse, peoples opinions of Christie have dropped faster than an authorized helicopter at a baseball game.

Nineteen percent said they feel a lot better about the governor since he took office, while 29 percent said they feel a lot worse. In total, 53 percent said they have an unfavorable view of Christie, while 43 percent have a favorable view. When it came to his job performance, 51 percent were unfavorable, and 44 percent were favorable.

They got what they voted for. I obviously didn't vote fir him - you didn't either. So I love giving Repubs in my neighborhood a nice smug smile that says, "I told you so."

Being able to say, “I told you so is small solace” while things are going to hell around you.

NJ is an affluent state with an abundance of jobs in R&D and in Finance. It is also a state where high school kids are among the top performing in the country. It also has a significant number of older urban centers that were once successful cities. Another state that could be described similarly is MA.

Since Governor Christie was elected in 2009, you can think of these two states as if they were testing the republican and the Democratic economic solutions. From two sources, here are the unemployment rates.


December 2009 (a month after Christie was elected - as a baseline): NJ - 10.0 MA - 9.3
December 2010 : : NJ - 9.1 MA - 8.2

May 2011: : NJ- 9.4 MA - 7.6


If you look at NY, also run by a Democratic governor, the results look like MA's. What is clear is that the cuts that Christie forced through have hurt the state of NJ.

How about you guys take Christie and those of us in PA take Corbett and we trade them for Markell of Delaware, and Beshear of Kentucky. To sweeten the deal for Delaware and Kentucky we throw in 2 nuclear power plants and I'm fully willing to give up the entire city of Centralia, PA.

We can do it in the middle of the night when no one is looking. Just swap their offices around and pretend nothing had changed.
