Durham anti-war activist got FBI visit amid raids
Durham anti-war activist got FBI visit amid raids
The Associated Press Monday, September 27, 2010

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — FBI agents visited a North Carolina anti-war activist at his home in Durham last week around the same time authorities were searching eight locations in Minneapolis and Chicago.

Kosta Harlan said Monday the agents tried to question him for about 10 minutes Friday about an ongoing terrorism investigation. Harlan says he refused to answer questions without speaking with an attorney. He would not discuss Monday what questions the agents asked.

The 26-year-old Harlan has been involved in anti-war and social justice protests for years. An FBI spokeswoman confirmed the visit but declined to discuss details.

Warrants from last week's raids in Chicago and Minneapolis suggested agents were looking for links between anti-war activists and terrorist groups in Colombia and the Middle East.

2. I suspect this represents continuing activity by embedded Bushista dead-enders:
Bushista George Holding is still US Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, for example.

Durham county is in the Middle District. The Bushista Anna Mills Wagoner, who had been US Attorney for the Middle District here since 2001, finally resigned in early August. Obama nominated Ripley Rand to fill the Middle District office back in late July, but his nominee has not yet been confirmed, and John Stone Jr is currently acting attorney. Stone was promoted to first assistant First Assistant United States Attorney there in 2007, and since Bush era hires and promotions were highly politicized, it is natural to suspect that Stone has Bushista sympathies

"Terrorist" arrests were common immediately before elections in the Bush era, when prosecutions were often conducted for electoral political advantage, so the timing of these harrassments strongly suggests a continuing rightwing political culture in the US Attorneys Offices
