CMS bonds rejected - Voters send a strong message
Voters resoundingly rejected bonds for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for the first time in a decade, with 57 percent saying no to a record $427 million to build and renovate schools.

The defeat, following months of frustration with taxes and CMS leadership, launches a political battle over how to meet the undisputed need for more classrooms. And some worry it will hinder the district's hunt for a new superintendent.

Even critics who have spent months arguing against the bonds said they were stunned by the degree of the loss. The bonds lost in precincts across the county, from the north and south suburbs, which stood the most to gain, to center-city and westside areas that felt shortchanged.

So what does this mean? I too was amazed at how resoundingly the bond was rejected.

I am frustrated with the way the city funds new construction. I think the developers should kick in if infrastructure does not exist in areas that they want to develop.
