Anyone else been to Wrightsville Beach and horrified at New Development?
Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 07:21 PM by KoKo01
MAYFAIR! Fake Charleston Houses and developments with More Condo's for over $300. sitting empty than anyone could imagine.

They've built a CITY of FRANCHISE right across the street from LANDFALL and the "FORUM" filled with "indie business" and trashed the entreprenuerial businesses that Bushies tout with FRANCHISES!

Who will go to "Oceanic" and "Blue Water" with all the competition from the "Macaroni Grill, Tex-Mex Finest Food, Starbucks, Suck Bones Grill," and every franchise that now exists in Wrightsville and in every other SE place like Boca Raton, Fla...?

So many "indie businesses" went out when "Mayfair" went in. And, "Duneside" and "Cordegrass" are going now for well over $1,000.000 dollars in just over a year?

What the hell is going on over there? I'm sure lot's of NC'linians think it's GOOD. I'm not so sure that making "Wrightsville Beach, NC" into "Boca Raton or ANYPLACE RESORT in AMERICA" is a GOOD THING?

Have you been there? Do you Live there? What do you think about the change if you "do" or "have been?"

1. With any luck, a big hurricane will sweep the place clean. . .
I've never been there, but I know where it is on the map.
Wrightsville Beach is in a very vulnerable area prone to hurricanes, as is the whole Carolina coast.

3. No...it's MORE! Typical of Bush years....don't believe your "lying eyes!"
It was "Buy on the Dips" (post hurricane) and you would make a million!

I know...what our "lying eyes are telling us." :-(

5. I find myself horrified at the level of new
development everywhere.

Even more so knowing what I am sure is coming, and knowing those poor bastards that bought at market top are going to get hosed.

6. Haven't been to Wrightsville since last year...
but was at Sunset, Ocean Isle, and Oak Island recently. A realtor told me condos were going up near that little Sunset bridge (on the Ocean Isle side) to the tune of $750K. They also allowed one of those hideous 2-story stores (name escapes me) with all the neon and Confederate flags in the windows right near the bridge. Gross. Meanwhile, fixer-uppers in Oak Island are going for under $300K. Can anyone weigh in on Oak Island? A gf and I were thinking of buying together, but we have a lot more research to do. Thanks.

7. I live in Wilmington
The property values all along the coast have soared in recent years, but this summer the new constructions have all but stopped selling. This has become the new Florida with most of the transplants being Northerners, either retired or escaping outrageous taxes, not to mention finding jobs in the construction industry which is now slowing considerably.

8. I love Wrightsville Beach
I hate that all of the development is going on there. It really sucks. Overpriced, generic condos going up and the restaurant chains (ugh) take away from the beauty of the beach.

9. Wrightsville Beach is gone
full of those giant houses and condos now. Ugly and plastic. No character. McResort. Nobody I know wants to go there anymore.

Needs a direct hit hurricane.
