GOP loss is a setback for Dole.
Sen. Elizabeth Dole's job as chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee had been to keep the Senate in GOP hands. It didn't happen.

Now, after two years in the Senate's GOP leadership, Dole tumbles into the minority -- back to her status as freshman senator from North Carolina and, perhaps, out of favor among Republican activists frustrated at election results.

Dole is satisfied with her performance.

"I can sleep well at night knowing we did everything possible to hold the Senate," Dole said in a telephone interview Thursday. "All I know is I worked my head off, and that's all you can do."

She held out hope until the end, saying even at mid-day Thursday that "the Senate is not settled." Hours later Republican incumbents in Montana and Virginia conceded, and the Senate officially slipped Democratic by the narrowest of margins.

16. That may be a wish that will be granted
John Edwards in 2008....for the U.S. Senate....AGAIN!

It came to my attention today, that North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman, Jerry Meek, is seeking a challenger against Elizabeth Dole in 2008. Someone who can make this race competitive, possibly bluff her out of the race, and make it a pick up for the Democratic Party.

6. Do-nothing Bushbot Dole is vulnerable and near laughing stock now
I wrote to her about a retiree matter (along with mentioning that the Repubs need to provide more accountability over Bush) about a year ago. It took several months to get a reply which failed to even mention my retiree problem and only stated how she is 100% behind our wonderful leader who has done such a fantastic job.

7. That must be a standard letter from her, because I received the same thing
when I wrote to her about an issue. My boss who is registered republican wrote her and never received a response...I guess we're lucky to have received a response.

17. She often doesn't repond

I've written the NC Senators a couple times. At least Richard Burr quickly sent a response - I never got a response from Elizabeth Dole at all. Her philosophy seems to be that if you're not a Republican, you're not a consituent.
