Unemployment Rate Up in All 14 N.C. Metro Areas

Raleigh — Unemployment in all 14 metropolitan statistical areas across North Carolina increased in November, contributing to a jump in the state’s unemployment rate to 4.9 percent, the state Employment Security Commission reported on Friday.

The unemployment rate in October was 4.5 percent.

The jobless rate in Raleigh-Cary increased to 3.6 percent from 3.3 percent. However, that figure matches Asheville for the lowest metro area unemployment percentage.

In Durham, the unemployment rate climbed to 4 percent, up from 3.7 percent.

Rocky Mount maintained the highest metro area jobless rate at 6.5 percent, up from 6.2 percent in October.

Perhaps I'll send this to the freeper acquaintance of mine who told me with a straight face that the "economy is the best that it's been in the country's history."

The freeper apparently doesn't remember the Clinton years. We had record low unemployment and inflations, and a record robust economy then but ... NOW? What planet does this freeper live on? OK. Well...same one as the rest of 'em, apparently and it's not this one!

Does Gov. Easley know about these figures. Does he deserve any blame? After all he is our governor, right?

I am just a displaced former state employee let go under Mr. Easley's cut 6 years ago. Also he rated our, the state pension plan to balance the budget.

I like to keep the blame as close to home as I can.

Being underemployed is often worse than being unemployed.
