Sheriff tells DA to kiss it

By Stacy Stenberg/Richmond County Daily Journal
Friday, March 23, 2007 11:23 PM EDT

Richmond County Sheriff Dale Furr expressed his displeasure earlier this month when District Attorney Michael Parker sent him a letter about why a jury found a man facing robbery and kidnapping charges not guilty.

In response to Parker’s letter, Furr summed up his feelings in two comments: “1) clean your own house before trying to clean mine, and 2) Kiss My A**!”

Furr’s March 12 letter followed one Parker sent March 9.

Furr said Friday he had no comment about the letter.

Parker said in a written statement Friday, “While no agency can be perfect all the time, what is important is being able to recognize problems and being willing to work to correct them.”

“As District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 20A, it is my duty to relay relevant concerns dealing with law enforcement investigations to the appropriate agency head in order to remedy those concerns in future cases,” he wrote.

Parker said relaying concerns are common practice and they may be shared verbally or by letter.

Jurors cite poor investigation.
