Cindy Sheehan and Sami Rasouli at UNC Chapel Hill (and Greensboro)
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 06:25 AM by jarnocan
On Saturday, April 21, at 7pm, Cindy Sheehan and Sami Rasouli will be speaking out against the Iraq war on UNC's campus.
Join us at the Pit, located at the central part of UNC-CH's campus, to hear these two powerful speakers as they share their unique perspectives on the war on Iraq and the anti-war movement in the U.S.

Sami Rasouli grew up in Iraq, left in the late 1970s and eventually moved to Minneapolis where he opened a restaurant called Sinbad's. It was a watering hole for people particularly concerned about politics. In November 2004, nearly 30 years after leaving Iraq, Rasouli returned home to help rebuild his country and report back to the people of the United States on what is really happening in the war. He is a founding member of the Muslim Peacemakers Team in Najaf.

Cindy Sheehan has been active in the US anti-war movement ever since her son died during his tour of duty in Iraq on April 4, 2004. Sheehan was one of nine founding members of Gold Star Families for Peace, which calls for an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq and provides support to members of the military and their families. Sheehan attracted international attention in August 2005 when she and others set up Camp Casey in front of George Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch, an around the clock demonstration that demanded to speak to the president and for the war on Iraq to end.
