OH-01 John Cranley to challenge (and defeat) Chabot

VERY exciting news in the 'Natti. John Cranley is taking a shot at Steve Chabot. I worked on Cranley's first Congressional campaign, and he was a heckova candidate, pulling 48% or thereabouts against Chabot despite zero name recognition at the time.

Now John has 2 terms on the Cincinnati City Council under his belt and the environment is ripe for takeover. I think he can do it. Does anyone have good intel on how the district has been changed?

1. The district became slightly more Republican in 2002

From the 2004 Almanac of American Politics:
"The 1st district lost population in the 1990s, and the 2002 redistricting added 88,000 people and in the process reduced the black percentage from 34% to 27% and increased the Bush 2000 percentage from 47% to 51%."

Despite efforts by the Republicans to protect Chabot through redistricting, it is still a very winnable district for the Democrats.

2. No matter, fight the good fight

While it may be an R district, Chabot isn't the kind of warm and freindly guy who generates a lot of support in swing voters. IMHO he's cold and standoffish (I'm being real polite here). Does he deliver much for his district?

Then he's got all those problems with Tom DeLay...
