Two positive observations today and a question
I was having lunch at our local diner. Two men were actually discussing politics. That, in itself, is uncommon in our area. They were disgusted with Bush. When I parked outside Radio Shack, two out of five cars in the row in front of me sported Kerry Edwards stickers. There were no Bush stickers in sight.

I have a TED '06 oval window sticker ready to go on my car as soon as I get it washed. Next week I'm calling Zack Space's office to volunteer one day a week for his campaign against Ney. My political life is beginning again. Am I reborn?

1. Whew!
I was afraid for a minute there that the question you were going to ask was: "Can you wash my car?". I think the gops are going to have an unpleasant season next year. Abramoff testifying is going to be like a daisy cutter taking out a bunch of congress members and they are going to have a tough time fighting the few competitive seats while also finding and funding candidates to replace all their criminals. So you are reborn and I am hopeful. We must make a fight for the Secretary of State's office, too. That campaign can be run on a national scale to advance the issue of fair elections.

2. Crossing our fingers
The R's certainly have enough problems on their plate, much of it linked back to Ohio. But Ohio is its own weird little pond. Scandals at the national level don't have the same impact here. We're really at the mercy of the news media to start reporting on this stuff and repeating the message of GOP corruption.

I still worry about wedge issues, God, guns n' gays. I also worry that the GOP will hatch its own internal "reform" slate that will sell the message that they'll "clean our own party up, don't worry, just leave us in power".

There are a lot of people and companies in Ohio who have made millions if not billions under Repub rule. They're going to fight like hell to keep their state government contracts, "hi tech development" dollars, illegal tax breaks and, biggest of all - offshore bank accounts where they dodge state taxes. They won't give it up without a fight.

3. First Energy comes to mind
Those creeps overcharged us for one or two billion in "stranded costs" at Perry, Davis Besse, & Beaver Valley. That gives them beaucoups money to fund candidates. They were the biggest funder fighting RON, I recall. What was that Mussolini quote about fascism should be properly called "corporatism"?

FE also lost a huge lawsuit and had to retrofit & shutdown some coal fired plants. When was that last in the Pee Dee? The paper that put the war on Christmas on page 1. :rant off:
