Strickland Leads Blackwell, Montgomery, Petro

Congressman Ted Strickland Leads GOP Rivals by
4 to 16 Points in Head-to-Head Match-ups

Columbus, Ohio - Ohio gubernatorial candidate Congressman Ted Strickland holds a lead over every Republican challenger for the governor's office, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll released Saturday.

The survey, conducted January 3, shows Strickland with a four-point lead over Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, 44% to 40%. Strickland leads Attorney General Jim Petro by five points, 43% to 38%.

The survey also found that Strickland leads Ohio State Auditor Betty Montgomery by a sixteen-point margin, 49% to 33%.

According to Rasmussen Reports, Strickland is viewed favorably by 54% of respondents, higher than the Republican challengers and significantly higher than the 40% favorability rating attributed to Strickland in the previous Rasmussen Reports poll (November).

1. Excellent news!
Saw the email this morning. Isn't also true that Rasmussen polls usually lean conservative? If so, Strickland's margin may be even wider.

2. Assuming that Blackwell is the nominee.
It will be a tough race for all. I fully expect the numbers to yo-yo back and forth for a while.

3. Just took a Zogby poll...
...that asked the same questions; I'd like to hear Zogby's take on this race.

They also floated Brian Flannery and Marcy Kaptur as possible Democratic candidates.

One question that was hair-raising was, "In the Republican primary, for whom would you vote? Jim Petro or Ken Blackwell?"

Yecch. What an absolutely repulsive idea. One more reason to be glad I ain't a Republican anymore.

(Car down the street, by the way, has a Strickland bumper sticker. For what it's worth.)

5. For now
Contact the campaign directly. Call the Columbus field office (614) 857-0700. They should be able to help you out. As offices get opened and county coordinators get established around the state, this sort of thing will get easier.

6. I can't believe it!
I just can't understand how the "R" candidates hold such high percentage points! Are people in my state really that stupid?
