Area officials preparing to welcome president on Saturday
News-Herald The Republican National Committee is renting Lake Farmpark in Kirtland to accommodate President Bush's visit to Lake County.
The committee, which is paying $10,000 to rent the facility, will bring in everything needed for the all-day affair, said David A. Noble, Lake Metroparks executive director.
"We didn't really have to furnish anything; this is a canned road show," Noble said. "We didn't even have to furnish the electricity. They are bringing in their own generators for that."
President Bush will roll into Lake County at noon Saturday for a campaign stop termed Victory 2004 Rally.
Prior to the Lake Farmpark stop, Bush is scheduled to appear in Cleveland at 9 a.m., according to the Bush-Cheney campaign. Then the president will travel to Erie, Pa., for a planned 3:20 p.m. appearance.

Dunlap said because of the visit, the public should be aware that a portion of Route 6, most likely from Route 306 to Sperry Road, will be closed around the noon hour.
Laketran will offer a free shuttle service from Lakeland Community College in Kirtland tentatively set to start at 7:45 a.m., Noble said.
The shuttle service will run until the event begins and concludes when all have returned to their cars at the parking lot off Route 306, said Jessie Baginski, Laketran's director of marketing and public relations.

Officials are anticipating between 10,000 to 15,000 in attendance, Dunlap said.
More than 3,000 people have signed up to get tickets, said Dino DiSanto, spokesman for U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, R-Concord Township.
For those who have signed up, tickets are available for pickup today and Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at LaTourette's campaign headquarters, 9112 Tyler Blvd., Mentor.

Not everyone plans a warm welcome for the president.
Congressional candidate Capri S. Cafaro, a Hunting Valley Democrat, on Wednesday unveiled two billboards in Lake County stating Republican policies "have cost Ohio 281,000 jobs since 2001."
"We're hoping people will see them driving on their way to see President Bush," said Cafaro spokesman Mike Cook.

I am working on arrangements for a protest demonstration. We could use the bus-staging point at Lakeland CC if we cannot get the Farmpark.
