cuz he is going to need them:

One Republican manufacturing owner applauds Brown for his moxie and is upset at DeWine for his support of free trade, but plans to vote for DeWine anyway.
“If the only issue was trade, Sherrod Brown would be great; he is on our side,” said John Baker, owner of Diamond Tool and Die, a Dayton company that went from 60 employees and $6 million in annual sales in 1999 to 27 people doing $2.5 million a year. “The problem is it’s not the only issue.”
Baker blames DeWine and Bush for outsourcing his tool and die jobs, letting companies in China do the work without worrying about minimum wage, environmental regulations and fair labor practices. But he said Brown is wrong on other key business issues, such as taxes, environmental regulations and how easy it is to file lawsuits against companies

I wonder is Baker ever had any lawsuits filed against his company.

2. Plenty of irony to go around...

like why is the author quoting "Russo," who I assume to be Tim Russo, without properly identifying why his opinion is important. Russo is a lukewarm supporter of Brown at best....

On the other hand, I think there is a point to be made about the complexity of this issue, which even if you can pare it down to sound-bites, still doesn't talk about how to overcome what has happened in the past.

I just think there needs to be a parallel message that will give Ohioans hope about rebuilding our economy, what Sherrod is for, not just against. He is a very smart man and also has to be careful not to get bogged down in the intellectual arguments....

They're using a version of the AP article that they cut down. Here's a different version:

I'm glad Sherrod keeps talking about the issue. DeWine is out of touch if he thinks free trade deals are helping Ohio's economy. One can follow the machinery to Mexico or the product line to China - DeWine and camp can use all the theory and Adam Smith quoting they want, but if they were a blue collar worker watching so many manufacturing facilities close, they would have a very different outlook.

Sherrod is a leader on this important issue. I agree it can't be his only issue. But it is a very important one and one that I'm glad he shows great leadership on. I think many Union members have been luke warm to the Dems since NAFTA - I'm sure they appreciate his leadership on trade issues.

And jobs is what Ohio doesn't have.....they all went overseas....sent there by rich white boys....short ones like dewine.
