I got in to see Kerry today at Union Terminal
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 11:11 AM by ritc2750
...and the reminder that I took away from the experience is that Republicans are -- let's face it -- hopelessly stupid. I don't know how much of the heckler was shown on TV, but this guy was sitting in a gallery reserved for veterans and -- from what I could see from their shirts and ballcaps -- nearly all of them were union members. So bonehead seats himself in the middle of a group of people not actually known for being shy and retiring.

To make things worse, the guy the heckler was sitting next to looked to be about a biscuit shy of 300 lbs., so he got out about four syllables (I never could understand what he was saying) before finding himself in a hammerlock and being hustled out the door. What an effing moron.

This guy goes into a room full of fiercely partisan Democats and tries to shout insults -- does he think that we're all going to go, "Hey! He has a point there, you know!" or that people watching on TV is going to be so impressed by his loutish behavior that they're going to vote Bush? This is pretty much the intellectual level of your average Bush supporter.

"I'm dumb as a bag of doorknobs, and George W. Bush is my President."

1. What disruptors at Kerry events are hoping
is that their disruptions will steal time from coverage of the actual events. I wonder if the VN veteran we rode the shuttle with from Springfield was there? He was a really laid-back guy on a bus full of fellow Democrats, but I can imagine he wouldn't put up with too much crap out of anybody if they got in his face, either.

4. They were nicer than I would have been...
and especially because I didn't see uniformed security. I think they were just volunteers -- but I was on the other side of the rotunda and couldn't see clearly once they got him out of the veterans' gallery.

5. Union Pipe Fitter!
I'm so happy -- you Union guys are the ones I always want to be around at an event because no one heckles me when I'm standing near a bunch of you big guys.

A Bushie tried to run me down while I was selling T-shirts, yard signs, etc. at a recent festival; I KNEW all I had to do was call the Union booth and someone would be down to help.

The guy left after I smiled and told him to have a nice day; guess I surprised him.

Anyway, thanks for making me feel safe!

:)

6. How large was the crowd, ritc?
It was difficult to tell on TV. I'm sure the press will report "50" people attended, but I'd like an estimate from you, please.

7. I'd say somewhere around 500
If you've ever been to Union Terminal in Cincinnati, just picture the rotunda basically full of chairs. It was crowded, but not packed to over-flowing because they had a very limited guest list. If you weren't invited, you weren't allowed in. It was billed as a policy speech and not a "campaign appearance."
