Need a job? The state of Ohio is now taking applications
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 07:38 AM by OhioBlues
NEW WEBSITE FOR STRICKLAND TRANSITION TEAM

The Strickland-Fisher administration will bring with it the largest employment turnover Ohio has seen in more than a decade. To manage this effort, Governor-elect Strickland announced creation of a new website to assist his transition team in finding qualified candidates and posting updates. Visitors to the site may submit comments or policy suggestions upload resumes and volunteer to assist with the Governor’s Inaugural celebration.

The website, http://govelect.ohio.gov/ can be found from the current State of Ohio homepage. The transition team also opened a new Columbus office on Monday in the Riffe Center, 77 S. High Street.

It appears there will be more than a few openings very soon. Apply online.

1. Thanks for posting this
I am very much interested how this process will go. There is a danger of losing so much institutional memory as to put the new administration on some shaky ground for awhile.... Anyone have any thoughts on this?

One of the reasons I am against term limits is because very few in the legislature understand what they're supposed to be doing either.

What is Fisher's background in development?

2. I've no clue about his background in development
But I copied and pasted this bio from the website.

Lieutenant Governor-Elect Lee Fisher’s career has spanned the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. For the past seven years, he has served as the President and CEO of the Center for Families and Children in Cleveland.

A highly-regarded public servant for more than 14 years, Lee served as Ohio Attorney General, State Senator and State Representative. Lee also worked as a private attorney, public company board director, and as a federal appellate law clerk.

As a state legislator, Lee authored more then ten Ohio laws, including the Missing Children law, the Hate Crime law, the Crime Victims Assistance law, and the Child Safety Seat law.

As Attorney General, he created the award-winning Operation Crackdown program which shut down hundreds of dangerous drug houses throughout Ohio, and he established the first-ever statewide law enforcement conference which is now an annual tradition in Ohio’s law enforcement community.

Lee is the founder and former Co-Chair of the Mental Health Advocacy Coalition and serves or has served on many nonprofit boards, including the National Leadership Board of the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center; the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; and Oberlin College. In addition, Lee was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Chair of the National Commission on Crime Control and Prevention, and to the World Board of Governors of the United Service Organizations (USO).

Raised in the Cleveland area, Lee graduated from Oberlin College and later received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University, and his Master Degree of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO) from the Case Mandel School for Nonprofit Organizations. Lee is married to Peggy Zone Fisher, the President and CEO of the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio. They have a son, Jason, who is a recent graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications and a daughter, Jessica, who is in high school.

3. "Development" is a tricky thing; I hope he is up to the task
There is a lot of lip service about economic development, esp., like it's the "in" buzz word, and communities and The State alike have to be careful not to getting drawn into just moving money around, as opposed to bring new money in, e.g., make products that people in California spend money on. Need to bring new money in, not re-distribute existing economies, like retail. Need to avoid tax-abatement bidding btwn communities where one company just re-locates to another location because it gets a good tax-abatement package.

I applied. I'd love to work for the State.

And I really need a job. We're closing the store by spring.

5. I'd love to work on the transition team.
Does the phrase, "the largest employment turnover Ohio has seen in more than a decade", make me unduly optimistic? Perhaps, but I am willing to give it a shot.

6. How about The State of Ohio is the largest "business" in Ohio
It employs more people than anyone else in The State.
