Ralph Regula is unsure if he is going to run for Congress again
The 16th district (Canton), is traditionally the bellwether for Ohio. In 2004, for the first time in decades, the presidential vote in the 13th district went the other way. They voted for John Kerry by a slight margin. If Regula retires, that district should be an easy pickup for the Democrats--bush's war policy is going to make 2008 a losing year for GOPs everywhere.

There was a great segment on Ralph Regula on WKSU - Kent Public Radio last week. They interviewed Regula and followed him around. He talked about his cordial relationship with Speaker Pelosi on some common issues. He sounded like he was tired of the job. I think he has been in Congress since 1975. At the time, he has $160,000 in campaign contributions. He easily raises $1 million, even in years when he has scant opposition. Regula has been hard to campaign against because his seniority has given him access to pork-barrel funding to buy alliances in both parties.

1. Kurt Shuring is running; Ralph is indeed tired
and it aint fun like it used to be with the likes The Honorable Don Pease of the 13th to hang out with. Ralph is next to the last of who I consider the true statesmen in the Senate. There's nothing wrong with bringing home the bacon, especially when, historically, other Ohio legislators haven't succeeded so well. Too bad that meat has to be somehow "tainted" now, too. How are we going to get anyone good to run if this type of climate continues?
