Some friendly advice from a poll worker
Okay, for the second time, I'm an election official. A few things you should remember tomorrow (assuming you didn't vote absentee).

REMEMBER your ID--driver's license, utility bill, something besides a voter card. Otherwise, you will have to vote provisionally.

If you want a paper ballot, ask for it. We won't be offering them, but if you ask, you will get one. Be aware, however, that precincts may run out of them if there is a run on them.

Make sure you confirm your vote if you're using a touch screen. There is (on at least our machines) a final step to insure you voted the way you think you did. "Cast and confirm"

Leave your campaign buttons and t-shirts at home. We have to enforce the "no campaigning" rule within 100 feet of the polls and that may include within 100 feet of the building. (So park at least 100 feet away if you've got a bumper sticker--thanks!) If you see someone else campaigning, tell a poll worker--we'll take care of it.

If you need help, ask.If you think something is wrong, tell us. If you are not satisfied with the answers, request a contact number for the Board of Elections--we have them on cards.

Have a great day! :hi:

1. Good advice, Maeve.
I'm an election official in Washington Twp., a suburb of Dayton, and we're expecting a huge turnout.

3. Which does bring up another reminder---
If the lines are long, please be patient. We're out here from 5:30 am until we can close the polls after 7:30 pm. Everyone in line at 7:30 must be allowed to vote, no matter how late it gets and it takes another 30-60 minutes to close up. We're tired, too!
Of course, DUers know this and are kind to the hard-working, but I'm sure y'all know folks who can stand to be reminded, right? :D

6. True! It's called "Youth in the Booth" and it was
first tried in the Nov. 2007 election.

The experience at my precinct was a disaster. We had a high-school senior who SLEPT at the table, wasn't the least bit helpful, took almost 2 hrs. for lunch, and was less-than polite to voters. One voter had to wake him by shaking his shoulder and saying "Mr. Election Official?? Will you help me, please, I'd like to vote."

Stamina? Maybe. Behaving properly and taking his position seriously? No.

BTW, I know you're just funnin' . . .

10. Our teens did fine, for the most part

I don't think they handled the boredom of small, low-turnout precincts very well, though. Boredom may not be a problem tomorrow. And me on my feet all day! (machine judge)

Oh, and Franklin County upped the pay by a whole $12 and change to reach 14 hour minimum wage.

7. You forgot one thing...
If you vote provisionally because of the lack of ID you must go to your Board of Elections and present "proper" ID within 10 days of the election or the BOE won't count your vote.

Also remember that two of the poll workers are Democrats and two are republicans at every precinct.

9. Good points. There are also an equal number of
Dems and repubs present during the counting of absentee ballots.

Hiya, rexcat!
