Letter writing help, please.
Our sailing club at Rocky Fork State Park has been having trouble with theft and vandalism -- boats and cars being broken into at night. We appealed to our state park administrators and they agreed to add a provision for additional dock and parking lot lighting to their 2009 budget request. We've recently been notified that the request was denied.

At a club meeting today I suggested we write to our state representatives to see if we could get some help. Everyone thought that was a good idea, and guess who was given the project? You got it, it landed in my lap.

I'm going to draft a letter that club members can personalize and send to their state reps. We have 104 club members and I'm hoping we get 75% of them to send letters.

Now, here's my question: would it be better to send the letter to our state SENATE members or HOUSE members? I can't find out which legislative group approves funding for state parks; even my friend Google was stumped.

Any suggestions? Any help with wording of the letter? Do you think it'll do any good?

Help! I'm desperate here.

1. Never mind.
I figured it out. Guess I was tired last night and this morning I found all the info I need.

Just in case anyone wants to know, the Ohio Senate is responsible for the Department of Natural Resources.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how I should have responded to someone who announced "Clinton, Gore, and Carter -- that's why shotguns were invented." ????

2. Wow, K - I don't know how to respond to THAT....
maybe, just confuse them with some facts... Since the shotgun was invented before any of the people mentioned were born, their poor attempt at humor does not make sense. It is also highly combative and hate-filled. It should also be noted that former Presidents elected before 1997 receive life-time secret service protection, so making threats against them is probably not something one should think will be taken by everyone as a harmless joke.

Then tell them to grow the F up.

5. The guy is obviously a jerk.
He hates Dems -- really hates us. And liberals? Don't even mention the word around him. He adores the Rush-Hannity crowd and thinks the torture at Abu Ghraib was well deserved. He's ex-military, carries a gun at all times, and hopes his son-in-law who is serving in Iraq kills lots of Arabs.

I HAVE to tolerate this guy. There's no way around it. I'd just like to smack him down with his stupid comments once in a while.

6. I wonder ...
Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, every day he builds homes for the homeless with his own hands.

Al Gore also received Nobel Peace Prize for his decades long work on climate change, he works hard everyday, reaching across the globe to form a global partnership to save the planet.

Bill Clinton, the steward of global economic growth & prosperity in the 90s and the defender of peace, he put an end to ethnic cleansing in the balkans and brought the guilty to justice. He was also effective in keeping Saddam in check and he *NEARLY* brokered a lasting peace between the Israelis & the Palestinians (Ehud & Yasser).

And if this guy still thinks these leaders are worthy of facing a shotgun, tell him that about 2000 years ago, right around where his son-in-law is deployed, there was an unassuming humble carpenter who also asked people to stop fighting and love one another.

Many believe that carpenter is still around, or due for a visit soon.

Would he like his son-in-law to silence that carpenter along with all the Arabs he uses for target practice ?

8. Hooray! Wonderful response.
I'm printing this (along with the Secret Service suggestion) and keeping it nearby for the next time he opens his big mouth.

Thanks, tons.
