Voted for the Republican County Prosecutor, he broke a 30 year old murder case.

Voted no on the gambling, I don't think the State should promoting gambling. I have two friends that lost everything they owned when West Virginia put a casino in Wheeling.

8. the electronic machines haven't been configured yet
the staff is a bit overwhelmed doing paper ballots, as such the turnout is not huge, but steady and keeping the BOEs busy until the high volume procedures kick in.

9. you have to admit 100 a day isn't a huge number for an entire county

Voters will have to use paper ballots for the next few days because the electronic voting machines are still being configured, Strasser said, which includes recording an audio ballot for the visually impaired.

About 100 people had voted by the time the office closed at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Strasser said.

Nearly a carbon copy of Max and DeadMan.

I'm taking a class from a professor who is also running for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, and as much as I like and respect her, she's a Repub and I voted for the Democrat (Yellow Dog that I am.)

19. My ballot looks like yours.
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 08:53 AM by Deep13
Except it was Sutton instead of Boccierri since the northern part of the county is in the 13th dist. I did vote for unopposed Sheriff Hassinger and Clerk of Courts Fourtney because I think they are going a good job.

I don't see what the big deal is about that casino issue. I keep hearing that Strickland and the FOP are against it, but no explanation why is ever given. Frankly I would rather go to southern Ohio instead of Detroit.

20. casino issue
In the past election cycles I was generally speaking opposed to Casino gambling in Ohio, but the times are different and so are the realities.

The continued hemorrhaging of educated professionals from Ohio, and the continued decline of revenue & quality of life for many Ohioans, has made me reconsider what the state needs to do to attract and retain new blood.

I think those opposed to the casino issue have used Strickland & Voinovich's statements from previous election cycles to make their ads.

I believe the Argassi casino group is funding the "No" ads, they stand to lose revenue at their facilities outside Ohio if Ohio gets its own Casino.

The issue is not perfect, but guess what, the voters can eventually perfect it in future election cycles.

In the meantime if the issue goes down, we will bleed another 500 million before the issue can again be raised again in 2010. Not to mention, Strickland & Voinovich (or his chosen successor) will be up for re-election, and likely to oppose it.

Driving into downtown detroit vs taking exit 45 on I-71, you choose.

21. Yes, max. And, Wilmington is losing 8K jobs because of
DHL's closing. The casino will be near Wilmington and those jobs are desperately needed!

I recently went to the casino in Indiana and looked at license plates in the parking garage; overwhelming majority had Ohio plates.

Head, meet wall.

22. And I voted yesterday, by absentee ballot
I will be working the election. My daughter voted for the first time, also absentee (she just turned 18 this year and goes to Shawnee State) and #2 Son is in the military and will also be casting an absentee ballot. #1 Son is thinking of heading in to vote early just to avoid the hassle on election day..
I wonder how busy my little precinct will be this year--I didn't work it 4 years ago, but the past two elections have been large stretches of boredom. I hope it's much busier--go democracy!

23. Good for you, Maeve!
Have you attended Ohio Poll Worker training yet? I did, last night, and things have changed.

Let me know how your training goes, please.

BTW, did your son attend the Obama rally at Shawnee State? His impression? How large was the crowd?

24. Yeah, training was Monday
Paper ballot, roster judge and greeters all trained together. Franklin Co has good manuals, so I'm not too concerned.

Daughter didn't go to the rally, but came home that afternoon--I'll ask her if any of her roomies did. We were going to go to the one here in Columbus, but had other things come up. A friend went and said it was beautiful
