I am furious!!! Cinti Enquirer on Jesse Jackson: DU complaints needed
Background: Peter Bronson is a very biased partisan columnist who has never had anything good to say about any dems. He worships at the alter of Sean Hannity. Guess who the Enquirer sent to cover the JJ rally in Cincinnati? A columnist NOT a reporter. In my book that is called conservative bias

Let Jackson take lesson from King

By Peter Bronson
Enquirer staff writer

Jesse Jackson was in town Monday to tell us "the election is not over" and urge a crowd of about 100 in Bond Hill to use "litigation, agitation and demonstration" to get a recount

snip

But then I wondered: On what planet do lawsuits spread hope? Are Jesse, two dozen ministers, a few union leaders and the rest of the crowd the last people who don't know it's over? What good does it do anyone to fertilize anger with rank rumors of fraud? "They conveniently forget that Ohio elections are run locally by bipartisan boards," said Blackwell spokesman Carlo LoParo

snip

In my book, fanning unfounded fears that the election was fixed does not uplift the human personality, or the reputation of Jesse Jackson

and on the editorial page
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20041130/EDIT01/411300303/1020/EDIT

It's déjà vu time for election reform

On Monday, Jesse Jackson was in Cincinnati on a statewide swing to demand a recount. Among the grievances: disqualified provisional ballots, vote-count errors, registration snafus and polling-place logjams

snip

Others are alleging that outright vote fraud handed the election to George W. Bush, comparing us unfavorably to Ukraine. That's nonsense. Whatever our Nov. 2 problems and screw-ups, they're minor compared to nations that do not have our bi- and non-partisan tradition of honoring the people's electoral will.

snip

Besides, the 2004 Ohio result was nowhere as close as Florida 2000, and not even a full recount would give the presidency to John Kerry over Bush.

snip

That's why there's a faint ring of truth when Jackson says, "This is about the integrity of the vote. This is not about the Kerry campaign." But let's be honest: Had Kerry won, would Jackson be holding rallies across Ohio agitating for a recount? Still, the fact that such accusations can be considered shows we still need real voting reform. Congress and the states should settle the disputes over voting-machine technology, voter registration and polling procedures - and provide ample funding to make the proper changes

Don't use the Letters to the Editor form to submit complaints. Address the editors individually

Enquirer staff contact info for complaints

I suggest complaints to Ray Cooklis, David Wells, Byron McCauley, Julie Engebrecht and Tony Lang

Our most persuasive DUers should contact Ray Cooklis about writing a 400 word Your Voices column addressing the issue

1. very demeaning portrait of Jackson by this columist!!!

"I guess he was plugging his ears when the fat lady sang.

Jesse, like Sting, Hillary and Shaq, is on a first-name basis with America. He's a little stouter and a bit older, but he hasn't lost a step in the rhetorical fast break, and he can still bury the three-pointer from the pulpit.

In this case, it was a lectern at Integrity Hall, owned by Steve Reece, father of Cincinnati Vice Mayor Alicia Reece. But it felt like church. "Preach it, Jesse," the crowd called out. "Uh-huh," "Amen," "Tell it," they said, nodding and applauding as Jesse preached a version of the classic losers' lament:

"Today's sermon: We wuz robbed by the refs."

He didn't say it exactly that way. He just advocated a federal investigation of Ohio's election, fulminated about sinister "schemes to suppress the vote" and insinuated that Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell had a thumb on the scales for Bush.'.

5. No Good...
Bronson is a asshole with a well-deserved reputation as a partisan shill. Do you think his editor isn't aware of that? That's what they pay him for, for Chrissake.

There's no saving the Cincinnati Enquirer -- unless you're saving it to line your cat box.

8. I disagree, Bronson used to be the editorial page editor
His demotion reflects the Enquirer did cave to pressure. We need to be organized and we need to hammer them relentlessly when they fuck up. They fucked up when they sent Bronson rather than a real reporter like Howard Wilkinson.

9. I also wanted to add we as a group (SW OH progressives) must band
together to hold SW Ohio's newspaper acoountable. If they spread disinformation we must counter it. A few months ago a newspaper insider addressed DU with tips on dealing with print media. That person advised complaining loudly and frequently AND demanding retractions. The media reacted to the incessant whine of the conservatives. Well two can play that game and we must.

10. According to folks at the Enquirer...
Bronson's demotion was at the request of his colleagues on the editorial board -- not the result of anything that he wrote.

I read your article on Jesse Jackson King, Jr.. It's full of racial stereotypes and lies. So, you want to roll over and give the election away? Just let the election crooks have their way with no questions asked? Its sad when we see someone who has the chance to reach the masses with the truth and, instead, you spewed nothing but your own blindsided and unoriginal analysis...something our country simply cannot afford. The truth is, you're hurting everyone's chance at keeping the Constitution safe and our elections fair.

Conform and let it go...dont make waves. Shame on you.

6. I wrote to him...
In your article, "Let Jackson Take Lesson from King", you stated:

Others are alleging that outright vote fraud handed the election to George W. Bush, comparing us unfavorably to Ukraine. That's nonsense. Whatever our Nov. 2 problems and screw-ups, they're minor compared to nations that do not have our bi- and non-partisan tradition of honoring the people's electoral will.

I strongly disagree. When our country uses electronic voting machines manufactured by a company whose president, Warren O'Dell, has promised to deliver Ohio's electoral votes to GW Bush, our country is no better than the Ukraine. Add that to the fact that Ken Blackwell is not only in charge of Ohio's voting machines as Secretary of State, but he's also co-chairman of the Bush-Cheney "re-election" committee. These e-voting machines have no paper trails for auditing or verification. Very progressive next to the Ukraine, right? I don't think so.

Additionally, this was the first time in 4 decades that a political party has systematically barred hundreds of thousands of black voters through provisional ballots. Nationwide, the number of black votes that "disappeared" is approximately one million. We're not talking about the Ukraine -- this happened in the U.S.

The facts, pesky as they are to those who worship the most inept president of our nation's history, speak for themselves. Contrary to the questionable voting results of November 2nd, I'm guessing more than half of this country's voters did not drink the KoolAid the corporate media has been passing out in the last 4 years.

Mr. Bronson, I suggest you stick with the facts. There are a lot of people who have abandoned corporate media on tv in favor of independent news on the internet because they can see through the hype.
