What is the word on these type of readers? I'm not at all familiar with them.

2. Optical scan voting is used in my precinct
You mark the card, and it's fed into a scanning maching that reads it and stores the hard copy. So at least there's a paper trail. However, the article says there are only 2 companies to pick from in Ohio, Diebold or ES&S. As neither has demonstrated good faith, I'd try for a third choice! (must be others making optical scanners).

3. All the Republican counties in Florida have them.
I'm not sure how it's possible that Florida interpreted the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Bush v. Gore to allow different voting methods in different counties. Basically, the Democratic counties have the controversial Diebold/Sequia/ESS type of voting; and the Republican counties have the paper trail ones.

4. Funny
Those optical scan balots were the things we were supposedly going to be replacing before we spent HUGE HUGE amounts of money for it.
