Ohio secretary of State Question
On the homepage of my local Democratic Party Page-(Darke County,Ohio) it says Bryan Flannery, Candidate for Ohio Secretary of State will be speaking. Is this anything interesting for the Democratic Party, should I give him my encouragement and try to stress how important election reform in Ohio is, or is this really nothing big.

If so I have a chance to go see him because its only about 15 minutes away from my house, I've never heard of him before but I do know most fraud of this last election was under the watch of current Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell who now is running for Governor I believe.

1. I've not heard this -- but by all means, go, and take the Democratic
Judicial Committee's Report "Preserving Democracy: What Went Wrong in Ohio" if possible, to present to him. (If you don't want to be that forward, you could just mail it to him, or e-mail him the link).

http://election04.ssrc.org/research/preserving_democracy.pdf

When will he be speaking? According to the Chamber of Commerce Website, your area code is 937 -- how close is that to Miamisburg (Montgomery County). I work in Centerville.

In my opinion, the blatant misuse of power by Blackwell IS big. While you might not get face to face time, he might allow questions, in which you could find one or two that you really want on the record (perhaps just to see what his response might be). If he knows nothing about what happened in Ohio, about the Recount (or the potential second recount), or the rallies in Columbus with Jessie Jackson, then he will need letters from those of us in Ohio (here at DU and elsewhere) to help educate him. Hopefully, though, he will address this need for election reform straight-up and we can breathe a sigh of relief and try to help get him elected (while making sure Blackwell Does NOT get the Nod for Governor (and yes, that is his aspiration).

If you get any more information, don't hesitate to pass it on (and if you do get more information, you may want to pass it on in the 2004 Election Discussion forum, too - there's a lot of people from Ohio in that group still).

2. You are absolutley Right
I suppose this would be a golden opportunity if anything else because if this guy is to become a major candidate in Ohio I will already know his views on the issues. I would definately like to ask him about Election Fraud directly.

Greenville to Centerville is only about an hour and Miamisburg is only an hour away acording to Mapquest. If you could go that would be cool. I am 15 years old and since my parents or none of my friends are as interested in Politics as mush as I am I prolly wont be there with anyobdy but I have nothing else to do.

Thats kinda why I turned to DU to ask if it would be worth my time going.

Anyways the site you can find info on is

www.darkedems.org and the event is called the Spring Gala it says RSVP must be submitted by the 21 but I called and they said this is not a top priority.

Well Reply On Here

3. If he's a candidate in 2005, it's news to me.
He ran for SOS in 2002 against Blackwell. He's a good guy and has been doing a lot of "visiting" around the state in the past couple of years, so I certainly wouldn't rule it out. I just don't think he's officially announced anything.

5. I've been there...
www.flanneryforohio.com

Looks like a campaign website, but he says nothing about being a 2006 candidate for Secretary of State. There also nothing in a Google News Search and nothing on the Ohio Democratic Party's home page. Do you have another link to this information?

7. Probably an oversight...
Probably meant to say "2002 Candidate for Ohio Secretary of State." But if you've been to his site, he's clearly running for something in 2006 -- as well he should.
