Primaries June 14

Voters in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District will choose a new member of Congress in a special election Aug. 2, after Republicans and Democrats choose their candidates in a special June 14 primary.
Ohio Gov. Bob Taft set the dates Tuesday, four days after Rob Portman resigned to become President Bush's new trade representative. Portman, a Terrace Park Republican, had held the House seat for 12 years.
For the next three months, the seven-county southern Ohio district's roughly 630,000 residents will be without a representative in the U.S. House, but they are likely to have plenty of choices when it comes to picking a new one.
At least seven Republicans and six Democrats have said they plan to run. Most of them have been out actively campaigning and raising money since President Bush announced the Portman appointment in February.
