Ohio Senate Race is SUDDENLY in PLAY!

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Senate race in Ohio. Last month, I asked you all to help us in slowing down the Republican incumbent, George Voinovich, by contributing just $10 to the campaign of up-and-coming Democratic star, Eric Fingerhut. (Fingerhut, as many of you will remember, was the one who cast the deciding vote in the House of Reps in ‘93 that gave us the longest period of economic growth in our nation’s history. It also cost him his seat in Congress.)

Well, things are starting to happen. In a big way.

Just last week one of the local news outlets reported a poll showing our work is paying off. Voinovich has now dropped below 50% approval for the first time in his Senate career. We’ve also closed the poll gap considerably over the last month and are feeling confident that we are now within striking distance of this once “unbeatable” Senator. Eric’s name recognition is stronger statewide and the campaign staff is now building grassroots contacts in places that haven’t voted Democratic in a generation.

I know I’ve come to you before, but today I ask again. Especially to those who couldn’t help before or thought they’d wait a bit to see what happens. ...and couldn't believe my eyes -- when you remember Voinovich's previous margins of victory both as governor and as senator, to be below 50% approval is incredibly good news! Ohio is in play!

He wasn't exactly much of a Governor, either, and has pretty much been off the radar since he traded the governor's mansion in Columbus for a Senate seat in Washington. Even Senator Mike DeWine speaks up from time to time just to let everyone know he exists. Voinovich seems content to simply collect his Senate checks. When does he sponsor any legislation or speak on anything? He's worthless.

My money's tight right now, but I'll willingly donate when I manage to scrape up a few extra bucks to help Fingerhut. Seems like he's been running for Senate or some other high office time and time again for quite sometime now. Maybe this will be his year. Ohioans finally seem to be tiring of GOP dominance.

I agree with you. Ask who Republican was George Voinovich's principle achievement was governor of Ohio for eight years and you're likely to be met with blank stares. As you said, he seems to be content with cashing checks -- and showing up at ribbon-cutting ceremonies. It's sad that it took Ohio so long to figure out this fraud.
