If you're in NE Ohio and can't get to DC on 9/24
Summit County Progressive Democrats
Summit County, Ohio
September 1, 2005

To All Northeast Ohio Advocates for Peace:

One of the most massive civic demonstrations in recent history is being planned to take place in Washington, D.C. next month. On September 24th, hundreds of thousands of patriotic Americans will gather on the mall in the nation’s capitol, to voice their dissatisfaction with the Bush Administration’s ‘stay-the-course, no–exit’ strategy in Iraq.

Simultaneous demonstrations will be held all over the country in hundreds of cities. This letter is intended to reach our fellow northeast Ohioans, who love their country, but cannot travel to Washington to express their opposition to this senseless, illegitimate war.

As a chapter of the Progressive Democrats of America, the Summit County Progressive Democrats are organizing a local demonstration in Akron, to be conducted simultaneously with the Washington peace march. We are writing you now to ask for you assistance, your presence, and your voice. We are asking you to join us in a visible, vocal, insistent but peaceful demonstration in the heart of northeast Ohio to demand that the architects of this war offer a plan to bring it to an end.

Our rally will begin at Grace Park in downtown Akron at 11 AM. There will be featured speakers, music and a mile-long march through the streets of Akron. We will reassemble at Grace Park, where spokespersons for participating organizations (yours, for instance) will be given the opportunity to address their fellow peace activists.

This is a call to anyone who believes the war in Iraq is a national disaster. It is a call to Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. It is a call to people of faith who believe this crusade is misguided, unjust, and immoral. It is a call to patriots who love their country, to veterans whose own experience tells them this war is wrong, and to parents and relatives of our military service men and women who have been put in harm’s way for no good reason. It is a call to men and women of conscience.

Will you to join us in Akron on Saturday, September 24, to make your voice heard? If so, please use the attached information sheet as a guideline for letting us know. As in any undertaking of this size, good coordination is essential.

In peace and solidarity –

The Summit County Progressive Democrats,
Ingrid Kunstel, President

1. I couldn't find a link to this letter at their site
and I couldn't locate the "attached information sheet" being mentioned in the above letter.

Please post the above links, this is an important local event for NE Ohio.

Hard to say what the turn out will be, people are a bit distracted from Katrina and such.

so I do not believe it's on their site. The main page has some info. The information sheet is a MS Word attachment. I've copied below:

Contact Information:

The sponsor of this public demonstration is the Summit County (Ohio) Progressive Democrats. The event will commence at 11 am and conclude at approximately 2 pm. Participants should assemble in Grace Park, which is located on Perkins Avenue, three blocks east of downtown Akron. They are encouraged to bring signs to carry during the mile-long march through the downtown area (SCPD will have some signs available on site). Free parking is available on adjacent streets on Saturday (the local churches, because of scheduling conflicts are unable to offer their lots, so please don’t park in same.)
